They moved the student, but not the teacher?
Whoever did that should be reprimanded also.
She must have a Photographic mind, that’s never been developed
Should be retired, now.
Those who can’t, teach. Figures.
Most fourth graders are able to understand the concept of using the word “men” to mean, “mankind”, which is to say, humankind. Too bad their idiot teacher couldn’t just explain that, instead of changing a sacred national treasure to reinforce both her ignorance and her sense of social bias.
At the risk of riling up FR, I don’t think this is a big deal. What did “men” mean? Did the Declaration only apply to males? The change did not alter the meaning.
‘changed ‘MAN to Human”
Too stupid to know that “man”(Singular to the plural Men) comes from the HuMAN..
she should be selling hamburgers somewhere
"Article I, Section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government [emphasis added], and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."
Insights welcome.
Heck, they’ve been doing this in Catholic and Protestant hymnals for decades. Once upon a time, people knew that “men” or “man” simply referred to a human being in general. But the idiocy of the 60s is not only still with us, but somehow seems to have gotten a hideous second wind now.
It’s my take that part of this woman’s agenda, is the idea that men screwed up this nation from it’s founding to the present.
Despite it’s faults, this is an amazing nation. At it’s core, it’s founding documents are second to none.
In part, the United States has helped immeasurably to free up humans around the planet.
Even people living in Communist China have a better life today because of the United States and it’s citizens. The people of Russia do as well. Reagan put in policies and applied pressure that resulting in the U.S.S.R. going under.
Eastern Europe and parts of Asia were freed from that beast.
Yes Ms. Teacher, slavery was abolished 152 years ago. People of all races come to the U.S., are treated decently, and can associate with and marry whoever they find a connection with. Why? Because MEN stood up and put and end to it.
Our MEN have fought and died since the nation’s creation, and they did it in part for you.
You are there in a nice school, with a good job, given lots of responsibility. And this is what you have chosen to do with it.
Sad. No, more accurately, vile.
You should be kicked out on your ass, and be caused to think about what you have done, until you can figure it out for yourself.
Not holding my breath on either count.
Those poor kids, being exposed to the TOXIC you.
Ping.
I am glad someone taught this idiot about context.
Back in 1776 the language did not assume that all men were evil. The term “man/men” meant all people.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
I made my 7th-grade students recite from memory, the Declaration of Independence from “When in the course...” to “...deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” Of course they hated it, but it was funny. Some kids who weren’t good students aced it on the first try. First try, they could get a 100, second an 85, third try a 70. The best part was that nearly all of them got through it, something that most believed was impossible when they first heard the assignment.
