Rogers: US Preparing for 'Real Military Exercise' Against NKorea
NBC ^ | 15 Sep 2017

Posted on 09/15/2017 4:31:31 PM PDT by mandaladon

Former House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers said Friday that the United States had four options — "all real options" — on North Korea and that the Defense Department was "in preparation for a real military exercise."

"There are really four options that the United States looks at," Rogers, the former Michigan GOP representative, told Jake Tapper on CNN. "They're all real options.

"They all have a different set of consequences."

Rogers said that the first was "decapitation, meaning you strike the leadership," including dictator Kim Jong Un "and some of the senior leaders around him.

"Take them out of the equation," he added.

The others include a limited strike on Pyongyang's nuclear apparatus — "the ability to produce, design, and the way that they can get those problem rockets to and from the launch pads.

"The next one," Rogers said, was a "full-on, let's-get-it-done, take-out of the 8,000 artillery tubes on the border — or as many as you can — and move South Korean troops over the DMZ."

"That's obviously a bad one," Rogers said of the latter choice, noting that Seoul, South Korea, is 35 miles from the North Korean border has about 25 million residents.

"It has huge casualty counts.

"But they're real options — and all of the things you see happening with our Defense Department is in preparation for a real military exercise.

"They're sending a very clear signal to Kim Jong Un: 'Listen, this is for real.' And hopefully it does."

The final option remains diplomacy, Rogers told Tapper.

"We're willing to do those, but you're going to have to cooperate," he said of North Korea.

"I think they're trying to set the table for a stronger and a better-negotiated diplomatic solution at the end of the day."

Try any of the first three, and the Norks roll out of those 8,000 artillery tubes without the requirement of instructions.

They flatten Seoul.

Then ROKs have to invade just to stop the arty.

Just sayin’.

I have it on good authority that the military is planning 친애하는 지도자에게 작전 죽음.

Diplomacy is not going to work. Decapitation and neutralization of their nuclear capabilities is an absolute necessity. In a total non nuclear commitment first strike I wonder what percentage of the artillery we can take out? Does the north have the old atomic/nuke artillery round? We can not put this off. I believe the Japanese and South Koreans are finally realizing they are out of options as well.

I’d shoot a cruise missile right up his ass. Even if it misses, it’ll put the fear of God in him.

The South Koreans have robots on the DMZ.

Special operations is an obvious choice. Kind of like the computer viruses in Iran that destroyed centrifuges. Or the mysterious deaths of Iran's nuclear scientists. Or the large explosion at an Iranian nuclear facility.

Nobody knows "who done it".

If we were going to take out the NORK military would a Desert Shield type build up be necessary?

South Korea and the U.S. will error very gravely if what North Korea wants is a massively huge diplomatic &/or economic &/or financial give back to come down off its nuclear ladder. The costs be huge and at any cost would not be worth the risk that North Korea will not live up to its side of any bargain, when it has a track record of zero on that score for its entire existence.

No, our “bargaining position” should be we are not bargaining, you, North Korea just have to climb back down off your nuclear arms ladder, and when and if you do, and when and if WE can verify you have done that, then we can talk about other things. If that is not what you will do, then we have nothing to talk about.

I think the Norks are trying to make nukes and ICBM’s a cash crop to other countries.

Supposedly, they had a lousy harvest and are in a drought.

I think we should be silent on diplomacy and rush every piece of artillery and armor to South Korea in preparation for a full invasion. That is what Kimmy will face. Aim everything at the NK capital and artillery positions NOW. Let him see the build up.

Let the silence drive him nuts.

Then, start moving the dependents south and start to de-populate Seoul. Hell, build something crazy like a Kevlar net stretched between high-rises to tangle incoming shells. It make not work, but it would really PO Kimmy.

Then, tell the NK generals that we are going to take over the country. If they retaliate, we will go nuke and kill everyone. They have a choice - kill the Kim family and surrender and re-unify as a democracy, or everyone dies and we do not care.

I'll ax the obvious, did anybody happen to hang on to a dozen or so enhanced radiation weapons back when they were supposedly decommissioned, whenever that was?

I know of an honest use for 'em.

I still remember all of the pundits and the “smart set” in the press and in DC saying that Iraq under Saddam was going to annihilate the US in war. They said that the Iraq army, the “4th largest in the world” which was “battle-tested” in a decade-long war with Iran and supplied with superior Soviet arms and equipment, would defeat America.

USMC A-6E Intruders that were patrolling the Kuwaiti coastline were first on the scene and armed ideally for the grim job at hand. The jets were carrying Mark 20 Rockeye cluster munitions which could rain devastation over a fairly wide area. The Intruders aimed at the front and rear of the convoy. If the munitions landed correctly, the tactic would trap all the remaining vehicles in between burning vehicles and cratered sections of highway on both ends of the convoy. In effect, it would turn the roughly four mile stretch of road into a bombing range.

The cluster munitions did their job. Both ends of escape were cut off, and vehicles at the head of the convoy careened into one another if they were not destroyed by the crescendo of sub-munitions.

What happened next remains highly controversial to this day. Wave after wave of coalition aircraft had their turn attacking the trapped vehicles. Flights of A-10 Warthogs were especially deadly, flying below the weather and expending all their munitions and cannon ammunition during multiple attack runs. The stretch of highway was worked over by coalition aircraft for 10 straight hours. Aboard carriers in the Gulf, any munitions ready for loading were being ordered onto fighter and attack jets with haste. Many of the vehicles that attempted to flee by driving off the highway were hunted down and destroyed.

It was a feeding frenzy

The end result of Gulf War I was that both China and Russia realized that their militaries were jokes.
