Following a rash of retirements, House Republican leaders are scrambling to get something done legislatively to convince other frustrated members not to toss in the towel in a tough political environment.
Its not much fun to be a House Republican these days. President Trump has repeatedly taken potshots at their conference. Primary challenges burble on the right. Congress has been unable to pass much meaningful legislation in spite of unified control of Washington. Every trip home means an earful both from liberals furious at their support of the president and conservatives irate theyre not doing enough to support his agenda. And members who havent seen real competition for years face tough races due to Trumps deep unpopularity.
That weighs heavily on Republicans who are on the fence about returning.
The jury may be out for some folks.
Some days it feels discouraging, said Rep. Mark Amodei (R-NV), who told TPM he was likely to run for reelection but admitted his final decision in March was a long ways away.

I almost laughed when I read that.
Exactly. I mean why would Trump deal with the Democrats and get half of what he wants in exchange for what the democrats want, when he could deal with the Republicans who won't do much of anything at all.
Thanks for the important addition. The wall indeed.
I left years ago. They’re a little SLOW.
[And members who havent seen real competition for years face tough races due to Trumps deep unpopularity.]
Oh what BS.
I give you a party controlled by corporate lobbyists.
These tone-deaf RINO idiots couldn’t fight their way out of a sh**house.
Trump is really rattling a lot of them - they were hoping for eternal status quo and final erosion of the Middle Class so there would only be the elites and the proles slaving for them.
“undocumented Democrats”
New name for RINOs. I like it!
Somebody else came up with undocumented Democrats, but I like it too.
Nope, sorry, the Constitution was never replaced and the only valid change to the Constitution is via a valid constitutional amendment. You’re spouting Lying Leftist doctirne.
The Constitution AS WRITTEN and originally understood and intended is the Supreme law of the Land (art. VI, cl. 2).
Anyone who confuses the voluntary cooperation between buyers and sellers in the free market economy with Leftist doctrine of global totalitarian government is very confused.

They do it all the time.
The 30’s style isolationist can not discern the difference between global trade and the false notion of global government.
While global government is fashionable among European leftists and their formerly American counterparts, there is certainly no desire for a global government among the people that matter east of Suez.
East oF Suez is the future. Europe is dying and will not recover.
Take off your rose-colored glasses. The world isn’t a nice, neat ceteris paribus economic theory. Your statement says that crony capitalism does not exist as a major driver in our Globalist economy. That’s naive at best.
The Right is very good at slamming what they’re against. But often, people on the Right seem to have trouble clarifying for themselves what they are for.
The Left is very clear about their goals: global totalitarian government. What are the goals of the Right?
Whatever else our goals are, they must include nothing less than restoration of our Free Constitutional Republic. Whatever it takes.

WTF is “crony capitalism”? A phony Leftist phrase the Left wants the Right to use to deflect from the REAL problem: the $4 trillion mostly unconstitutional federal government which is corrupt to the core.
Hint #1: the Constitution is the Supreme law of the Land.
Hint#2: the Constitution forbids GOVERNMENT from taking bribes. The Constitution does NOT forbid free enterprise from offering bribes.
