Where Would Trump Be If He Had Run as What He Is: the Amnesty Candidate?
PJ Media ^ | 09/14/2017 | Andrew McCarthy

Posted on 09/14/2017 8:19:40 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

One of the great ironies of the 2016 campaign is that Donald Trump, who has run as the immigration scourge, is actually the amnesty candidate.

Trump has expressly vowed to give legal status to millions of illegal aliens. For any other candidate, such a promise would have been the campaign death knell. To compare, John Kasich -- who is openly pro-amnesty -- has lost 38 of 39 primaries (the sole exception being his own state) and has never been a plausible contestant. When it comes to Trump, however, it seems that the all-important amnesty fine-print of his immigration position has been overlooked. This is no doubt due to his consciously controversial rhetoric: his fixation about building a wall on the Mexican border, his oft-repeated commitment to mass-deportation of illegal aliens, his disparaging comments about Mexicans, and his proposed moratorium on Muslim immigration.

Yet, Trump is the amnesty candidate. What’s more, the amnesty component of his immigration plan is the only part that has a realistic chance of happening.

Trump is not going to build his wall, much less make Mexico pay for it, as he has insisted our southern neighbor will do. Quite apart from the fact that much of the border is not suitable terrain for wall construction, his wall would be astronomically more expensive to build than he has estimated, and in any event, Democrats and many Republicans in Congress would block funding for it. (To be clear: I favor construction of walls and/or fencing where practical; but a wall is only one component, and not nearly the most critical one, of what must be a multi-faceted strategy if we are to be serious about border security.)

Trump’s categorical moratorium on Muslim immigration would also be rejected.

Its still up to the worthless CONGRESS to write the laws. Then he will or will not sign. He is prodding the congress to get off their fat rears. Its like working with recalcitrant morons. They have every chance now to do something. Wanna bet they do NOTHING or what’s worse make the whole thing even more effed up?

Why are you people so compelled to post all these leftist media lies? Everyone knows what they’re all about and has seen all their leftist claptrap a thousand times.

But here it is again, right up front. Very odd.

He’d have never got out of the primaries.

That’s assuming you buy into the “amnesty candidate” lie being used to undermine him.

Amnesty doesn’t requirement citizenship. It appears he is trying to save face by trying to claim he isn’t going to give them citizenship.

Amnesty is essentially a pardon for being here illegally.

1. Whatever the eventual outcome is, it would have been worse under any candidate preferred by Andrew McCarthy and the NR Never Trump crowd (Jeb!, Little Marco et al.)
2. Trump has long indicated his willingness to legalize the DACA people. We don’t have to like it but this has long been his view.
3. The devil will be in the details such as
(a) what will disqualify a DACA person from participating? The Dems and RINOs will want to allow drunk drivers and domestic abusers and almost every one of them to stay.
(b) What kind of benefits will DACA people be entitled to: affirmative action in hiring or education? in-state tuition? “Earned Income Tax Credit” (welfare)? Public housing? Voting? Being counted in the census?
(c) Will they be allowed to use their status (now or upon becoming citizens) to bring their relatives to the USA?
(d) What real comes out of this on the enforcement side?
4. If it is a bad deal, Trump can and should veto it. If it is a great deal, well, opinions are going to vary but I will be in wait-and-see mode.
5. Trusting Schumer, Pelosi, The Turtle or Jug Ears would be a huge mistake.
6. If this smells like amnesty and The Wall does not get built, the President will not be reelected.

Oh, so now he wants to give them citizenship.

What is his definition of Amnesty. I don’t even think he knows.

This guy is consistently hot and cold with Trump, but over all a Trump basher any chance he gets. I don’t read him much any more.

I’m not a NeverTrump dickbag. Not trying to sow discontent either.

I’m troubled by the fact that Trump has given his base nothing that they voted for, outside of a SCOTUS judge which I will credit him for, and now appears to be setting the table to give us the exact opposite of what we voted for.

And then has the never to ask us did we really want that anyway? Yes, mother fvcker, that’s what we wanted.

I’m troubled that the sole purpose of the federal government seems to be to screw us and give the country away to anyone else who wants it besides us.

There doesn’t seem to be anyway to stop this behavior.

Any civil way anyway.

Troubling to say the least.

OH ya and put in a life long politician as POTUS?

Thats what has been going on since anyone can remember.

I will take this guy over any other lying SOB out there.

Lemme state one fact to all of you who jump off the train so fast..ONE FRIGGAN FACT.

The Supreme COURT of the USA. That appointment alone is proof that this POTUS was worth his election.

So go ahead and tell me we would have been better off with that skank Clinton as POTUS.

If he really wants a wall as he claims..why isn’t he using various means to strong arm for it.

Instead, he caves. He should be using it as leverage on DACA, amnesty, and debt ceiling.

Then, when he doesn’t get the wall..that he doesn’t appear to want anyway...he can blame Congress.
