For years the number of stay-at-home dads has been rising, as more men take on responsibility for looking after the home and family. But now the trend appears to be reversing, with the number falling sharply to a three-year low - and experts say the novelty of being a "new man" could be wearing off.

I’m weary of any “trend” fomented by modern culture.
They are inevitably negative, and harm the family.
That said, I would love to afford being a stay at home dad.
The man at home has neighbor women coming in droves to borrow a cup of sugar. There is a disruption in the force. Cougars prowl.
And the woman at work will look to move on to a better provider.
It has more to do with the improving economy than anything else.
I retired early; my wife is still working. If you’re at home you are expected [without saying] to do the cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, laundry, etc. I don’t have to care for kids, but it is no wonder they want to get back to work.
Yes, this goofy little experiment was doomed to fail. They can’t undo thousands of years of Western civilization.
I think a lot of stats about women working full-time are being buried as well; female co-workers of mine approaching 60 are a miserable lot, many look forward to retiring at 62, and those who never married and had children are the most miserable. They “played man” for 40+ years, and are looking back with regrets...
My husband is retired and is now a stay at home dad! He loves it! He wonders how he ever used to have time to drive to Houston every day 1.5 hours trip each way, and work 14 hours, six days a week! He loves it! But he did work about fifty years.
My husband doesn’t help with cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, laundry, etc. I must be doing something WRONG! I will have a talk with him!
“The man at home has neighbor women coming in droves to borrow a cup of sugar. There is a disruption in the force. Cougars prowl.”
No can do. Both wife and I work from home.
I know two men who are “stay at home moms”.
In both cases the wife is a nurse earning very good pay for the area.
So the men do the domestic side of things. Kids are happy, no daycare and they’re a hit at school when they visit for lunch.
I am familiar with several stay at home fathers... I smirk when I hear them tell how much work is involved in keeping house, caring for children, grocery shopping, preparing meals and never ending laundry.
I think there's something to be said for children seeing (certainly) their fathers going off to a job in the morning.
Of course, if you're wealthy enough, perhaps you'd run some sort of business out of your home, maybe have a formal home office. Either way, I think it's important for children to see that their parent(s) are doing some kind of productive endeavor in making money and contributing to their household.
My husband will help if I tell him to do something, otherwise it flies right over his head. I stayed home for 10 years and raised our sons until the last one went to school. Then went to work and still had to do everything at home. That was my own fault, I should have smacked him upside the head but it was just easier to do it than have to “draw a picture” basically. I take meds for that all now.
Male and female are different. BY NATURE, the woman is more suited to care for the children, and the man is better fit to go out and endure the rigors of the world of work and give the child an example of what it means to be the wage earner.
Many men stayed with the kids because deliberate and intentional job discrimination prevented them from working, while deliberate and intentional discrimination ensured that the women got jobs.
No way, gurlz rule boyz drool. Strong and independent Zena Warrior Princesses earned it all on their very own, men are just stupid. /s
Eh! Doesn’t really count! I will be a “stay at home dad” when I retire, probably about four years ahead of my wife, and I won’t have a problem with all those “chores”, and I am certain how I ever did that commute every day!
Looking forward to it! (I started to make a snide comment about “If I worked fifty years...” only to so some quick counting on my fingers to realize...I am not that far from that either.
I am looking forward to cooking for my wife for when she gets home. I think I am a better cook, and...now, she gets home before me so she does most of the cooking.
It turns out that metrosexuals were another fad that brainless women like as a fantasy but despise in real life. It's very much like Dave Barry's take on "50 shades of gross" . . . So the plot is: They have sex, she wants to smooch, he wants to flog, theres a bunch of talking about this, they have sex again, she again wants to smooch, he again wants to flog, theres a bunch more talking about this, . . . and so on for several hundred word-filled pages. Finally, Anastasia decides to let Christian flog her, to see what it would be like. So he takes a belt and flogs her on the butt. Then, in the dramatic climax to the story, the moment we have been building up to, Anastasia comes to a shocking, life-changing realization, which nobody could have foreseen in a million years: Getting flogged on the butt hurts. Yes! Its painful! Anastasia does not like it! Double crap!! . . . So she breaks up with him
Leftist women are just as surprised when they finally turn men into Pajama Boy. Even Ctrl-Left women do not like it!! Double crap!! . . . So they break up with their Pajama Boy and try a brief but satisfying fling with a real man. Until politics forces them to find another wimp and to try their hand again at emasculating yet another marginal guy into yet another completely useless Pajama Boy. I'm married and expect to stay that way. Even if something happened though, I would never go near a leftist woman. I like real, normal women too much to put up with the politicized nonsense.
Two of the families I know personally, 'job discrimination' had nothing to do with the decision for dad to stay home. One mom is a doctor, and the other mom is a dentist. Both dads majored in computer science. Surely, you are not advocating same pay for different work products?
I want to find a woman that wants a stay at home but has no children.
