The entire Florida Peninsula has begun to experience Hurricane Irma following landfall at Marco Island. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Prayers for all in the storm path.

As per my post # 60. Wife’s friend’s husband and son-in-law stayed in Key West and road it out. One broken window and a bit damp. Cell phones are working but power was out. Time of report was just before lunch.
Does the downgrading of Irma to a cat2 also mean that the lower wind speeds will weaken the storm surge?
Hurricanes are gargantuan rotating wind storms that drop billions of gallons of water in their wake. Let that sink in for a moment.
Storm surges come later, just when you think you’re safe.
Enjoying the breaking up so quickly.
Good news .
Unbelievable; we’re hearing that armed thugs are knocking on peoples’ doors, posing as electric company, to see if they’re home and to rob them.

Katrina dropped from a Cat 5 to a Cat 3 at landfall. Still had Cat 5 surge. Windspeeds tend to drop off faster than a mound of water in motion.
I found this on YouTube, with an Amateur Radio, not sure if this will provide anything.

Yes. But earlier they were showing how the wind had pushed a tremendous amount of water out of the bay, so when the wind shifts I’d imagine there will be a wall of water rushing back in that could do a lot of damage.
I’m in Venice, FL...looks like it will be two or less when it gets here...the storm surge will destroy the coast like Sandy..
does any one know a good site for wind
Where is this? Oh—that would not end well around here.
moving fast now
Welp..Florida, this was a much better day than we thought. Especially considering people were planning your total destruction. “SW FLORIDA WILL BE DESTROYED”
Yea, nope!
Flooding still to come I know but it’s looking better and better. I just want to hear more about the Keys. That has me worried.
That great news!
Yes surge is still to come but remember NOLA is below sea level and eight of the major city’s drains were not working thanks to bad city management. The rain and flood waters backed up for over 12 hours that’s to those broken drainage systems.
I’m waiting to catch the location again; but they warned that this could happen all over. Advising people to demand FPL ID before opening door.
The person reporting is breaking up badly.
It’s a ranch house, old bungalow style. They said they did go next door during the height of the storm. The neighbor has a two story and they all stayed upstairs.
