The elephant in the room.

This seems impossible! The Wall Street Journal just published a letter from Mayor Emanuel saying that the new mass of money was going to make Chicago’s school system and the whole city number one again.
This can also be seen as the rise of the new “City-State” as these islands of corruption, political self-dealing and outright theft continue spread their tentacles out into the suburbs and extraburbs. This grown will continue until the political power of the ‘city’ rivals that of the home State.
We see this ‘power’ in national elections, were a major city can capture the State’s electoral votes, over-riding the votes and wishes of the rest of the population. That much of this ‘political power’ is driven by **demonstrable fraud** only increases the frustrations of rural residents.
One need only look at the recent attempt of 10 counties in KS and CO attempted to break away (from Denver/Kansas City) and form their own - nonwelfare State.
This...call it ill-will, will continue to increase as taxes continue to be jacked up to support the massive welfare population.
The days of this Nation are numbered unless things change.
Good luck. It's a beautiful house, but who's going to buy it? The same thing that keeps guests away will keep buyers away.
The interior of The Welcome Inn is beautiful and grand.
It’s the sort of place TV series or movies could use to film their episodes. Immense and captivating inside. You sort of forget where you are, until you go outside the door.
There are (or were) mansions like that for sale in Cairo, Ill for much less. People who don’t know better snap them up, to their regret.
I lived in the late seventies in a house in downtown Toledo (OH) and live in one now that has that kind of woodwork in it and the workmanship is stunning! You just can’t get that kind of craftmanship anymore unless you spend the BIG, BIG bucks... And before I moved in here the landlord hired a drunk loser guy to paint this place and he painted over all the gorgeous woodwork! If I ever see that SOB again, I’m going to shoot him with extreme prejudice!
Mr Lifson should consider a visit to Detroit, the slamming needs to stop. It is not what he thinks, smart money invested with REITs 5 yrs ago, the changes are starting to get noticed, especially by native Detroiter’s....
The Democrats are takers. They’re not builders.
Chicago has been the White man’s Detroit for a long time. The only difference has been Michigan’s Democrats decided they didn’t care about a Black city turning into a cesspool. Chicago has been different because the money on Illinois has been in Chicago. Now the money is gone and they have no place to get more. Chicago’s days are numbered.
Chicago has an affluent downtown with countless new high rise towers that have been constructed in the last 20 years. Near downtown is affluent too. Then there is the north side, with so many pricey neighborhoods. Chicago will have numerous neighborhoods thrive. There is simply a high demand of yuppies wanting to live there. Prices have appreciated this year vs. last year. If you were to do an over lay a map of of predominate single mother household neighborhoods, it would probably mirror the high crime neighborhoods. The explanation is that simple in my opinion as a person who travels the length and breadth of that city.
It’s near the Hyde Park neighborhood (U. of Chicago). At that price it seems like a steal.
Courtesy of data at the ‘Hey Jackass’ web-site: of the 75 or so neighborhood areas in the city, only 15 have had no murders this year: three near the central Loop area, one on the South Side, three on the Far South Side, six on the Far Northwest side, and one on the North Side. Every other neighborhood has seen at least one murder this year, and over most of the South Side and West Side, those murder numbers go into double digits. And we’ve still got 4 months to go.

I walk along our small Idaho lake in the morning with my dogs and watch a baby moose swim across after his mama and I can't imagine anyone living in a place like Chicago and accepting that their life can't change.
But, we're all different.
Asians maybe? They are moving into Bronzeville to the chagrin of many of the locals. The neighborhood is changing slowly.
This is NJ as well, and the “makers” (and their employers) are fleeing. They are tired of maintaining our part-time public school teacher caste as our new upper middle class, and voting with their feet.
The state’s response is the import Hispanics as blue-collar replacements and Asians as white-collar replacements.
