The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.
Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

Good rules.
Wife and I purchased 10 acres in North East Okeechobee this summary and are planning to build a home there in 2 years.
We will make sure it is as well built as possible.
One thing about evacuating is that, if you take the correct measures to secure you home from the storm and it survives in tack, I might not survive the looters. That is what I would be most afraid of and would want to be there to protect what I have worked all my life to build.
Really amazing is boating under the main span of the Skyway Bridge. I travel over the current bridge so many times, don’t even think about it.

We’ll check it out. God willing - it will still be there.
You’ve done an outstanding job on these threads. That video while representing something very, destructive is also beautiful.
I know the guy who put that up, just saw it on facebook. Great guy, he’s a fishing guide down there.
Sounds like she will do just fine #WeAreHurricaneStrong
Go Dawgs see you in Atlanta lol
Thank you both for the explanation.
Amen Captain #WeAreHurricaneStrong
A friend of mine who lived most of her life on the Chesapeake Bay told of this happening once - a hurricane just sucked the bay out as far as she could see.
Wall of higher pressure to west than to the north, where there is some low pressure. Hurricane supposed to move along path of least resistance.
Total layman take, so keep checking.
My current understanding is that the farther west it goes before turning north probably means that Irma will get stronger as it will be in warmer water.
Please correct me if I gave that wrong.
I think that is where the storm surge comes from.
So true I am on the east coast thought it would ride the coast like Mathew...still from the rain we will have flooding but I am ready #WeAreHurricaneStrong
The one track going to Texas is a linear extrapolation of the current direction. I.e.: where it would go if it kept going in a straight line.
Always an interesting thing to see, but.... Not usually all that accurate as a predictor.
Here's the latest trajectory image from the Weather Channel. Sorry folks, I'm not buying it. My BS meter is on tilt. If this hurricane takes a sharp turn North, I'll drink a case of the skunkiest, absolutely gut-rot beer ever made.
Greedy woman, isn’t she?
Oh crap, the northern turn might be starting.....

In this case it’s caused by wind and it comes back slowly. My friend posted video of it on facebutt and then later said the water had returned. He was out walking around in the uncovered area.
