Chiefs-Patriots clash draws lowest TV ratings for an NFL opener since 2009

The NFL opened the 2017 season Thursday night to its lowest television ratings in eight years.

NBC’s broadcast of the Kansas City Chiefs’ stunning 42-27 upset of the New England Patriots drew an overnight rating of 14.6. That’s down nearly 12% from the 16.5 posted by the Denver Broncos-Carolina Panthers season kickoff from a year ago.

That’s bad news for the NFL since the ratings had also dropped for the 2016 opener, down approximately 7% from the 17.7 rating posted the previous year, when the Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers played in the first game of the season.

That’s correct. And when I saw that, I changed the channel. I suggest all of you do the same. When you see a guy insult our flag, change the channel.

That is what happens when u bleed money from people to watch the games. When the games are on private channels people are no longer conditioned to watch and they loose their fan base. Simple economics!

People have better things to do with 4 hours.

And the there are the commercials.

Here's a little trip down memory lane, into the not-too-distant past.   Our country had problems back then (as now), and racial relations then (as now) were not perfect, but notice the radically different approach to our National Anthem back then.   (My apologies for the ex-presidents shown in this clip, and, to Eagles fans, for the sad outcome of that game, with the mighty Eagles biting the dust, but try to just focus your attention on "The Star Spangled Banner", and notice the difference back then of everyone's reaction to it, and to the surrounding patriotic activities, showing what that flag really stands for.)

"Superbowl 39 - Anthem - US Military Academy Choirs (flyover)"

What a difference today.   I don't follow the NFL anymore.

With that, I'll say goodnight to all.

There was a game the other night? Oh, I must have missed it. /sarc

Hope my Tom Brady rookie cards keep their value. My Michael Vick, Michael Sam, John Manziel, and Krapernick haven’t.

Well, maybe some leftist will buy the Colin rookie cards. So much promise, so much stupidity, and stupidity wins every time.

The point is that Aaron Rogers should be DENOUNCING Kaepernick as unpatriotic scum, not rooting for him to land a job. At the same time you turn a blind eye and say “Go, Packers, Go!” while your QB cheers on this guy.

Yeah, “Go Packers!”, rah, rah, rah.

>>>>Yep, tolerating this insult to the flag and country is turning off many long time, loyal fans. But the powers that be are still in denial.<<<<

And many Freepers here still say I’m still supporting MY TEAM (and the NFL).

Lets see: Spend three plus hours watching a group of felons chase a ball around or spend the afternoon reading a book, spending time with the family or just relaxing. Free time is a rarity anymore and to spend it planted in front of a TV watching NFL would be a waste.
