The NFL opened the 2017 season Thursday night to its lowest television ratings in eight years.
NBCs broadcast of the Kansas City Chiefs stunning 42-27 upset of the New England Patriots drew an overnight rating of 14.6. Thats down nearly 12% from the 16.5 posted by the Denver Broncos-Carolina Panthers season kickoff from a year ago.
Thats bad news for the NFL since the ratings had also dropped for the 2016 opener, down approximately 7% from the 17.7 rating posted the previous year, when the Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers played in the first game of the season.

I think Goodell and most owners are still in denial, or they at least won't admit to the public what the problem is. The question is how long will they keep up the pretense.
Yep, tolerating this insult to the flag and country is turning off many long time, loyal fans. But the powers that be are still in denial.
If Kaperpunk somehow gets a contract, the ratings will go down even more. The only time I watch is when eating out and the restaurant has a game on, other than that—don’t waste my time.
Not really a press release as I had remembered -- a friend of mine posted this photo on fb with this statement, "Yes, very proud to be a CHIEFS fan, this is just one more reason why!"
“I think Goodell and most owners are still in denial, or they at least won’t admit to the public what the problem is.”
They are a lot like the college presidents who are pretending their leftist safe spaces and diversity efforts aren’t hurting alumni donations.
In addition to the PC crap I am wondering if indeed it is also Peak NFL that I have commented on that in other threads.
Over-saturation of the markets and product could also be going hand in hand with the Public Relations problems they are having.
All these elements together could very spell a downward rating spike and then what will the NFL do with the sponsors and clauses in the contracts on ratings and rebates, etc.. It might be a costly season for the Cable & Networks in terms of AD dollars they might have to rebate and the ad rates they charge.
What? Did the NFL have a game?............not sorry I missed it.
Rodgers already said that Colin should be in the league. Fine Aaron let him take you spot.
It’s about time. We shall see.
And the bizarre desire to be PC explains both situations, as impossible as it is for half-rational people to understand that.
I’m a chronically disappointed Chiefs fan too, but that sounds fake. I can’t imagine an owner calling the players paid performers (true) and not getting called out for being demeaning or insulting or racist or something.
#22 just looked like a fool sitting by himself last night - another snowflake.
They brought this on themselves.
Cry me a river.
They did it to themselves.
Bet next season they’ll completely do away with the anthem. Watch for it. And watch for the numbers to drop even further.
Time for a tranny quarterback in the league. That’ll increase the ratings!
Thanks for the info, I must have missed that. Colon will never play in Green Bay. Aaron should stick to being NFL’s top QB.
I don't doubt there are some other, lesser contributing factors. But I have little doubt that the insult to the flag and country is overwhelmingly the major factor in the decline in TV viewership.
Recall, the NFL had had nothing but years of increasing TV audiences until last year.
Aaron has a little SJW in him, I’m afraid.
Sam Houston State vs Prairie View. Good game. Sam Houston won but Prairie View put up a good fight.
What? You thought the NFL? Not on your life. It's college football only now.
No, Clark Hunt says that is “an internet hoax” ....

Also, the wussifying Goodell Rules and those stupid pink games (we got it, breast cancer). The NFL is taking the manliness out of the game, so less men are watching it.
