Chiefs-Patriots clash draws lowest TV ratings for an NFL opener since 2009

The NFL opened the 2017 season Thursday night to its lowest television ratings in eight years.

NBC’s broadcast of the Kansas City Chiefs’ stunning 42-27 upset of the New England Patriots drew an overnight rating of 14.6. That’s down nearly 12% from the 16.5 posted by the Denver Broncos-Carolina Panthers season kickoff from a year ago.

That’s bad news for the NFL since the ratings had also dropped for the 2016 opener, down approximately 7% from the 17.7 rating posted the previous year, when the Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers played in the first game of the season.

But your quarterback, Rogers, thinks The Kap should be on a team.
And I am thinking to myself, if Rogers thinks The Kap should be on
a team, why doesn’t Rogers demand the Packers hire him?

I found it amusing that so many sports talkers in 2016 feigned ignorance on why the NFL ratings had dropped. When they finally got the unambiguous research they flat out refused to believe it.

As expected, many of them were still heaping scorn on the polls and on the respondents and brashly predicted a rebound in ratings. Waiting for their next excuse....

Well Sunday should be a good barometer then for the forthcoming season. If the ratings decline anywhere like last night there will be Panic in the NFL and the owners will have to do something to reverse it and draw the line in the dirt.

Too much money riding on all of it including the value of the franchises themselves.

Obviously the NFL needs to get OJ back in the Monday Night Football mix, because THAT is what it would take for me to ever watch another NFL regular season game again.

I watched a few minutes. The Dallas Texans were trailing at that point, and I turned it off after about 3 plays and seemingly never-ending commercials.

Perhaps it’s all the arrests.
Or the drug use.
Or beating up/punching a girlfriend.
Or the fancy dances and silly celebrations
Or gold chains
And throw political statements on top of that.

I’ve stopped watching too.
Johnny Unitas...our nation turns it’s lonely eyes to you.
Remember Nameth to Maynard? Did they do any fancy dances? No.
A Ray Neitsch (sp?) hit? Did Ray do any celebrating?

Haha! Me too.

But just to see if he would murder someone.

I don’t know why. I guess we’ll just have to wait for someone to ask him. Ted Thompson the Packer GM does the hiring. He does pretty good choices on player development -—— Colon just isn’t that good a QB and even Aaron knows that.

It’s not about the flag - it is about our National Anthem. Even I don’t salute every flag I happen across but when the National Anthem is played ceremoniously all hands stand at attention and salute and civilians place their hands over their hearts. An American that doesn’t respect our Anthem is a traitor in my book and I hope they rot in a gutter one day as I piss on them.

Nothing enshrines an NFL player in American culture more than having Christopher Cross wear his jersey in a concert. LOL.

P.S. -- I was a huge Earl Campbell fan myself!

I am repulsed by the failure to stand for the anthem but I don't believe it's the one and only reason for the drop in ratings.

Progressives don't seem to like sports at the same level the rest of us do. I've always thought that competition reminds them of capitalism.

We have two generations of students taught by leftist teachers using progressive curriculum. These generations were taught little more than social justice and were spit out of "school" as snowflakes, who are too delicate for physical games where half of the participants lose. As a group, I'm guessing fewer of the snowflake generation are drawn to football.

I never said Rogers should hire The Kap.
I said if Rogers is going to run his mouth about The Kap
should be on a team, he should demand the Packers hire hire.
Rogers would have been better off keeping his mouth shut.
After all, if The Kap is good enough for Rogers, he should
be good enough for the Packers.
