In “For Peter Pan on Her 70th Birthday,” which opens Wednesday at Mainstage Theater, she’s billed simply as “a dog.” (Talk about typecasting.) One of her more significant bits of stage business involves gobbling up some dropped cereal.

All told, it’s a long way from Oklahoma, where animal trainer Bill Berloni found Macy in December 2009.

Maybe she’s getting ready to turn 10 years old which would be 70 in dog years.

Peter Pan is the "her" in this probable dopey gay-pushing play.

Mary Martin was much more well known than her son——he was known as Mary Martin’s son.

OK, by why would a woman be cast as Peter Pan?

I remember seeing her do Peter Pan live on television. For some reason, I seem to recall hearing later that she had performed that night with a high fever...

Wow, I didn’t know Wayne Carini was an Actor.

Is his Chasing Classic Cars Show still on Velocity?

I also didn’t know that Peter Pan was a Tranny.

I learn something new every day here.

The character was prepubescent.

It would have been difficult to find a young actor that could handle the rigors of a extended stage production. So they cast adult women with slight frames.

Peter Pan is almost always played by a female onstage. I had always thought that it was because he’s perceived as a sort of ‘elfin’ personality, and having a female play the part suited; but there are other, traditional reasons:

And so Macy ended up back at the shelter. Desperate, the staff reached out to a woman who rescued Dalmatians.

Anita Radcliffe?
