House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) spoke to President Trump by phone on Thursday and asked him to issue a tweet reassuring young undocumented immigrants that they wont be deported in the next six months.
According to a Democratic aide, Pelosi informed colleagues at a House Democratic whip meeting Thursday morning that she asked the president to make clear that recipients under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program wont be subject to deportation as the Trump administration phases it out over the next six months.
Trump tweeted Thursday morning, For all of those (DACA) that are concerned about your status during the 6 month period, you have nothing to worry about No action!
Under the terms announced by the Trump administration earlier this week, DACA recipients whose permits expire within the next six months have until Oct. 5 to apply for renewal. But those whose permits run out after the March deadline will see their permits expire unless Congress acts.
Pelosi is under pressure from Democrats to push for a permanent legislative fix for people in the DACA program, which allows undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as minors to stay in the country and apply for work permits.
Some Democrats questioned the efficacy of the deal struck by Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Trump on Wednesday to extend the debt limit for another three months. They think this months fiscal fights to avoid a government shutdown and raise the debt limit should have been used to push for a long-term DACA fix.
Trump on Wednesday expressed hope that Congress will find a way to address the fate of DACA recipients.
I will tell you, I really believe Congress wants to take care of it. We discussed that also today, and Chuck and Nancy would like to see something happen, and so do I, Trump said.
How about sending a tweet if they don’t apply for US citizenship by next Tuesday, they’ll be deported.
Oh how sweet
A soothing tweet
The ONLY reason this was necessary is because of the LYING MSM and the Teacher’s Unions scaring the students.
Swamp is in hair on fire mode.
Roses are red
Violets are blue
I’d try to get legal
If I were you
I would prefer something like that as well but as I see it, Trump is signaling support for some form of legalization of DACA participants.
What that solution includes remains to be seen but I assume it would entail legalization of this group with certain caveats along with border wall, e-verify, etc. Dare I say amnesty?
I might add a few more words: "Watch out for ICE!"
The Feds should put 100,000 of these up in the appropriate locations:
I thought the average age of DACA’s was in the mid-20’s.
He forgot.. hey American kids, get in the back! I guess that is implied. No wonder he hasn’t vetoed no wall bills.. he just doesn’t have enough anti- Americans to Wall in yet.
Say what?
Facts don’t matter.
Teachers and the MSM have been telling students they’re being deported.
You don’t really believe the students organized all of those Tuesday walkouts?
What percentage of these DACA people are gang members?
We don't need that trash here. There better be a 1-strike rule associated with this!
LOL, well done
See Ann Coulter yesterday for an excellent summary of the Lucy & Football immigration tactics used to screw the nation the past 35 years: We Made Donald %#&@ Trump PRESIDENT What Else Can We Do?"
You’re right about that.
Don’t want to rush to judgement here because this could be some masterful plan Trump is executing but putting that aside, yeah the focus on this group does not seem to put American’s first...
Anybody in FR who believes that any of these guys are going to be deported EVER (unless they commit a felony) is a dreamer. At best Trump might get some money for the wall, but he may have blown even that when he said that if congress doesn’t act he’ll revisit the issue. Why would congress act now, when he signaled he’ll probably change his mind in six months?
