Climate Denialism Is Literally Killing Us
The Nation ^ | September 7, 2017 | By Mark Hertsgaard

Posted on 09/07/2017 6:47:59 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

The victims of Hurricane Harvey have a murderer - and it’s not the storm.

The horrors hurled at Houston and the Himalayan lowlands in late August were heartbreaking - but also infuriating. How many times must we see this disaster movie - titled Hurricane Harvey in 2017 - before we intervene and change the ending? And how long before we hold the ultimate authors of such climate catastrophes accountable for the miseries they inflict?

What makes this so infuriating is that it shouldn’t be happening. Experts have warned for decades that global warming would increase these sorts of weather extremes and that people would suffer and die if protective measures were not implemented.

Yet Donald Trump and other powerful know-nothings in Washington seem perversely determined to ignore the lessons of Harvey, while doubling down on making things worse. Trump has crammed his administration full of climate-change deniers while pushing full steam ahead on more oil, gas, and coal production.

It is past time to call out Trump and all climate deniers for this crime against humanity. No more treating climate denial like an honest difference of opinion.

Now, the individuals and institutions pushing climate denial must be called out with even greater vigor.

The first step toward justice is to call things by their true names. Murder is murder, whether the murderers admit it or not. Punish it as such, or we encourage more of the same.

You win the “Best Post in This Thread” Award for sure. Nice post and worth repeating for those who failed to read it the first time around.

If you read the “official” human caused global warming academic theories (I have), increased CO2 is supposed to raise temperatures (the greenhouse effect). However, the warming is not symmetrical, that is, the equator won’t get much warmer, but the poles will (dooming the polar bears, supposedly). It is the temperature difference between cold and warm air (and water) regions that lead to storms, and the greater the difference in temperatures, the more intense the storm will be. My point is that if the poles became relatively warmer, compared to the equator, then storms in general should get less severe, not more.
So, people who point to severe storms as “proof” of the global warming theory do not understand the theory they are supposedly defending.

There seems to be a little desperation here when the left is blaming the Conservatives for the weather.

All that concern about losing a few dozen lifes to nature, but no concern that a tyrannical government official has acquired nuclear ICBM’s. Well,....think we know how the US got 20 trillion in debt.

If you add the term “settled religion”, I think people will buy it.

How so?

What exactly was the climate pushers' plan to stop Hurricane Harvey? How would accepting the concept of climate change have stopped Harvey? The same questions apply to Irma.

All the climate pushers have are numbers on papers and reports, and many of those have been proven to be falsified and manipulated.

I only remember hearing about the one in 1900. Was there another? Those poor Galvestonians.

THAT I agree upon. Lysenko set back Soviet agriculture for decades. So much so that it wasn't until AFTER the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 that Russia and Ukraine became large-scale wheat exporters again (during the Soviet Union era, the Russians actually had to import wheat even in one of the most productive wheat growing regions in the world).

Like the city council in Charlottesville VA ? I suggest that they are accessories before the fact for causing the riot in the first place.
