Climate Denialism Is Literally Killing Us
The Nation ^ | September 7, 2017 | By Mark Hertsgaard

Posted on 09/07/2017 6:47:59 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

The victims of Hurricane Harvey have a murderer - and it’s not the storm.

The horrors hurled at Houston and the Himalayan lowlands in late August were heartbreaking - but also infuriating. How many times must we see this disaster movie - titled Hurricane Harvey in 2017 - before we intervene and change the ending? And how long before we hold the ultimate authors of such climate catastrophes accountable for the miseries they inflict?

What makes this so infuriating is that it shouldn’t be happening. Experts have warned for decades that global warming would increase these sorts of weather extremes and that people would suffer and die if protective measures were not implemented.

Yet Donald Trump and other powerful know-nothings in Washington seem perversely determined to ignore the lessons of Harvey, while doubling down on making things worse. Trump has crammed his administration full of climate-change deniers while pushing full steam ahead on more oil, gas, and coal production.

It is past time to call out Trump and all climate deniers for this crime against humanity. No more treating climate denial like an honest difference of opinion.

Now, the individuals and institutions pushing climate denial must be called out with even greater vigor.

The first step toward justice is to call things by their true names. Murder is murder, whether the murderers admit it or not. Punish it as such, or we encourage more of the same.

The lack of oxygen after all this horrible hurricane huffing is at fault.

Experts have warned for decades that global warming would increase these sorts of weather extremes...

Patent Bullshit.
I have been around since before WW II and have experienced a number of hurricanes first hand, and these storms have been happening for a lot longer before world industrialization. And so...I repeat...
Patent Bullshit.

I was listening to the radio in the car yesterday, and the young disc jockey made a few comments between songs...about how Harvey was proof of global warming...now we have Irma and another storm (Jose) out in the Atlantic...and that three hurricanes in one month was unheard of and proof we were all gonna die, etc. etc.

The guy was sincere...he genuinely believes it, having been indoctrinated, likely in school. That's the part that scares me.

If you read the “official” human caused global warming academic theories (I have), increased CO2 is supposed to raise temperatures (the greenhouse effect). However, the warming is not symmetrical, that is, the equator won’t get much warmer, but the poles will (dooming the polar bears, supposedly). It is the temperature difference between cold and warm air (and water) regions that lead to storms, and the greater the difference in temperatures, the more intense the storm will be. My point is that if the poles became relatively warmer, compared to the equator, then storms in general should get less severe, not more.
So, people who point to severe storms as “proof” of the global warming theory do not understand the theory they are supposedly defending.

I decided to do some research on hurricanes.

Here are some of the things you must factor into the equation:

Africa
Water
The sun
Cold, dry air in North America
The equator
Torque
The Conservation of Angular Momentum
The Coriolis Effect
The Westerly Tradewinds
Air generally doesn’t move as fast as it should
Evaporation
The earth is round

That’s just the start.

What’s notable about Harvey and Irma is not even how powerful they were but where and how they struck population centers. If a hurricane rages out in the ocean but nobody is there to feel the wrath of its wind, does it count?

“Climate Denialism Is Literally Killing Us”

So how the hell did it miss the staff of the Nation?

Interesting how we see that meteorologists with state of the art sensors, supercomputers and models cannot tell us the path of a hurricane they are looking at with real time data, but leftists have complete confidence that the temp of the Earth can be predicted 50-100 years from now.

I talk to those guys on the internet all the time. It’s easy to show them that this is not unusual. I even use Katrina. The hurricane was just average. Unfortunately, a bad levee broke, flooding a big bowl. It was an accident waiting to happen and they KNEW another hurricane could cause it.

It’s like running on bald tires with cords showing and when you get a blowout from a rock in the road, complaining that the road is in terrible disrepair.

Yup... There is so much more going on in the world than mankind’s puny fires. Water vapor does more dramatic things than CO2 at any earthly concentration can. And there is a world of geology with a constantly changing face. And then there are those butterflies in the chaos.

His attacks and claims that CG/ Hurricanes would destroy the wheat crops and thereby deprive us of PASTA made him a laughingstock, in 2012!
“Some days, there appears such blatant stupidity in the MSM, you wonder if there isn’t some sort of award than can be handed out for it. I think Mark Hertsgaard is deserving of such an award for this moronically mendacious missive where he manages to work the two poster children for ridiculous climate alarmism into one paragraph:

Hurricane Sandy’s recent devastation of New York and neighboring states reminded Americans of what Hurricane Katrina demonstrated in 2005: global warming makes weather more extreme, and extreme weather can be extremely dangerous. But flooding coastlines aren’t our only worry. Climate change is also imperiling the very foundation of human existence: our ability to feed ourselves.

This colossal disconnect (name a hurricane that hit the wheat belt) makes me want to call him up and scream at him. His premise is this:

But if humans want to keep eating pasta, we will have to take much more aggressive action against global warming. Pasta is made from wheat, and a large, growing body of scientific studies and real-world observations suggest that wheat will be hit especially hard as temperatures rise and storms and drought intensify in the years ahead.”

Democrats have had the White House for 16 of the last 24 years, but it’s Trumps fault. Got it. No wonder they have no credibility.

10,000 people died in the Galveston hurricane of 1906. That was MUCH worse than Harvey.

When I think of these warmist climate believers, the only image that comes to mind is from an old Ingmar Bergman movie about the Dark Ages. It’s a line of self-flagellating believers trailing through a village that is overwhelmed with the Black Plague. Their high priest in the lead is repeating, “Repent, Repent, the end of the world is near!”

I don’t recall that he was demanding money, though, so maybe he wasn’t as bad as these high priests. Exact same superstitious nonsense, though

I read some idiot liberal is claiming that if Trump hadn't dropped out of the Paris Accords, that Hurricane's Harvey and Irma would not have happened.

Quick. Sign back up. Maybe we can still stop Irma in her tracks. Lol!

Can't get any dumber than that. Well....maybe not. There are still a lot of liberals out there who routinely come up with their own stupid ideas.

Must be tough to be that ignorant.
