Trump to Congress: Legalize DACA! (or I Will Revisit)
Breitbart.com ^ | 5 Sep 2017 | Adam Shaw

President Trump called on Congress to “legalize” DACA late Tuesday, just hours after his administration announced the repeal of the amnesty for children brought to the country illegally — promising that he will “revisit this issue” if Congress does not turn DACA into legislation.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the repeal of the Obama era executive order — known as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — both on constitutional grounds and also on principle.

“The effect of this unilateral executive amnesty, among other things, contributed to a surge of unaccompanied minors on the southern border that yielded terrible humanitarian consequences,” Sessions said. “It also denied jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans by allowing those same jobs to go to illegal aliens.”

The move saw significant opposition from Democrats and voices in the media, while even some Republicans who formerly opposed DACA called for Congress to act to resolve the issue with legislation.

The rollback includes a six-month delay so as to allow Congress to act if it so chose. The White House had expressed hope that the issue could be included as part of a broader immigration legislation package, with Trump tweeting that he hoped to work with Democrats and Republicans for a reform “that puts hardworking citizens of our country 1st.”

But by late Tuesday, Trump appeared to have turned into a paper tiger on the key campaign promise to get rid of DACA, saying he would “revisit this issue” if Congress did not “legalize DACA.”

If the GOP members of Congress were inclined to support a blanket amnesty bill, they would have done it already -- particularly with Barack Obama in the White House.

Different versions of the DREAM Act were introduced in 2001, 2007, 2008 (as part of a defense authorization bill), 2009 and 2011. They couldn't pass it back then, and they were perfectly content to complain loudly about Obama's DACA executive order because it meant they got their DREAM Act without actually having to vote on it.

Marco Rubio's support for the DREAM Act likely cost him dearly in the 2016 Republican primaries.

I don't think any of these jerks in Congress (I'm speaking specifically about the Republican ones) are willing to go out on a limb for anything.

“Sessions cancelled DACA, but Trump threatened to revive it in six month if Congress can’t come up with an amnesty bill for him to sign.”

Please post a link to where President Trump threatened to “revive” DACA?

Meanwhile.. Admin officials have no idea what Trump meant (but the waters aren’t muddied,,,LOLOLOL)

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/09/06/trump-daca-dreamers-tweet-justice-department-242375

Beyond suggesting that Trump use “tools at his disposal to put more pressure on Congress,” Flores declined to clarify what other steps the president might take to shield the dreamers, for whom he has professed “a great love” and promised to treat with “great heart.” Flores said Trump’s decision to create a six-month winddown period for DACA would actually prove to be a compassionate step, because it removed the possibility of an immediate end to the program via court order.

I see what you did there.

This is an interesting paragraph from an official http://www.politico.com/story/2017/09/06/trump-daca-dreamers-tweet-justice-department-242375

Because you aren’t listening to Trump’s own words/tweets. He’s telling Congress to make it permanent and legal. He was forced to do something about it by yesterday because the courts had essentially declared it illegal.

And what he did is say he’s pushing Congress to enact it as a permanent amnesty.

Not really so hard to understand or open for too much interpretation. Trump has made himself clear on it.

Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump 1 Congress now has 6 months to legalize DACA (something the Obama Administration was unable to do). If they can't, I will revisit this issue!

No, he is not daring them to do anything. It is clear that he will sign rather than veto their bill. By saying he will revisit it if they don’t make it a permanent and legal amnesty in the next six months he is saying that he won’t let it expire on its own.

But no worry, there are certainly enough safe Republicans to pass it with the Dems.

This is a total Jivanka victory.

Kinda looks like he’s, at best, a never-Trump traitor.

All I did was post Trump’s tweet and “mazda77” engages in a vile & vicious personal attack without any merit - he’s clearly off his meds.

Totally agree. Trump is forcing congress to DO THEIR JOB. Enough with all the basking in the glow of their cushy congressional gig. Congress, GO TO WORK!

Big deal. I call ‘em as I see ‘em. I don’t join cults. I supported Cruz, and strongly believe that he would be a much better president. BUT, now I am with Trump. My guy did not win.
Obama unconstitutionally created DACA. Trump can END it with the stroke of a pen. He should just do it, and stop the silly games.

Exactly. For the life of me, I cannot understand why otherwise intelligent people would pretend to not understand that “legalize DACA” simply means legalize DACA.

“No, you consistent idiot”

That’s a great way to persuade people LOLOLOLOL!!!! Reminds me of Cankles & her “deplorable” suicide.

“he is protecting the program by making sure that congress makes it legal and permanent.”

That’s YOUR OPINION. Not a factual statement. He’s RESCINDED the program. That’s not protection it’s the announcement of the END of the program complete with no longer accepting applications to the program.

In reality, President Trump has effectively told Congress that if they want DACA they need to do so according to the Constitution. Sessions statement yesterday confirms that President Trump agrees DACA is unconstitutional in its current form.

Keep chasing the newest shiny thing President Trump threw out. It’s a treat to behold.

That is not what you did and you know it. What you did was conflate your perception of what he tweeted. You have no idea what he meant, all you could so was conflate.

You are to be commended on correctly copying & pasting President Trump’s tweet in case someone comes along who hasn’t read & wonders what all the fuss is about.

Well done :)
