Trump to Congress: Legalize DACA! (or I Will Revisit)
Breitbart.com ^ | 5 Sep 2017 | Adam Shaw

President Trump called on Congress to “legalize” DACA late Tuesday, just hours after his administration announced the repeal of the amnesty for children brought to the country illegally — promising that he will “revisit this issue” if Congress does not turn DACA into legislation.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the repeal of the Obama era executive order — known as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — both on constitutional grounds and also on principle.

“The effect of this unilateral executive amnesty, among other things, contributed to a surge of unaccompanied minors on the southern border that yielded terrible humanitarian consequences,” Sessions said. “It also denied jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans by allowing those same jobs to go to illegal aliens.”

The move saw significant opposition from Democrats and voices in the media, while even some Republicans who formerly opposed DACA called for Congress to act to resolve the issue with legislation.

The rollback includes a six-month delay so as to allow Congress to act if it so chose. The White House had expressed hope that the issue could be included as part of a broader immigration legislation package, with Trump tweeting that he hoped to work with Democrats and Republicans for a reform “that puts hardworking citizens of our country 1st.”

But by late Tuesday, Trump appeared to have turned into a paper tiger on the key campaign promise to get rid of DACA, saying he would “revisit this issue” if Congress did not “legalize DACA.”

Reading all the %&^%$#@! pearl-clutching garbage, posted on this thread, is maddening. So many here are so easily willing to think or believe the worst about President Trump.

The responses cause me to wonder whether they actually support President Trump, or they are just “fair weather friends.”

Donald Trump thinks 10 steps ahead of whatever most of the damned armchair keyboard warriors could do on their best day. I really wish they would go someplace else - perhaps start their own “TDS” club, where their sacrosanct “ideological purity” sensibilities would never be challenged.

btw, I don’t know what the hell Trump is doing or believing.

It was stupid. He was fine until he decided to muddle it up with his tweet.

You don’t know either.

Neither do his spokespeople

They're not on the record, and I predict that they WON'T be on the record. They're never going to vote for anything that lets these "Dreamers" stay unless the bill contains some very punitive measures that ends up encouraging a lot of them to go back home.

Now, exactly which Congressmen and Senators are inclined to support a bill with punitive measures that encourages self-deportation? The Democrats are 100% behind amnesty. Liberal Republicans like McCain and Graham support a "path to citizenship" not just for DACA recipients but their parents. So-called conservatives like Marco Rubio support the same.

Given these facts on the ground, where exactly are all of these immigration restrictionist Congressmen and Senators hiding? Even if the President were inclined to sign a bill to punish or deport "Dreamers" (which is debatable), that's not the bill he's going to get on his desk from Congress. Remember, this is the same Congress that spent most of its time debating the best way to make illegals US citizens, not the best way to get rid of them.

I like the positioning:

1. Not my legal ability to continue this executive order.
2. Congress is in charge of immigration.
3. If they don’t act, I will have to revisit.

Trump has managed to:

1. Act legally
2. Put a burden on the backs of every RINO in a primary to defend
3. Blame Congress instead of himself
4. Be compassionate.
5. Point out Obama was acting illegally.

I am guilty of misreading it as an opinion piece. Sue me :)

But let’s look at what Conway said. “...then perhaps he will revisit it”.

You want to twist that into President Trump writing his own DACA EO?

Good luck with that :)

I say this lib tweet pretty well sums up the whole thing

Matthew Whelan‏ @sullivanst More accurate: Conway doesn't know what Trump's pledge to "revisit" DACA actually means (because nor does he).

He’s pushing them to pass an amnesty.

That is a horrible position.

All he needed to do is what he promised during the campaign and end the program.

I see nothing in the White House statements in the link that makes it clear that the President will veto any Congressional bill that restores legal status to current DACA recipients, so what is your point?

Lol! Yeah sure you are.

Go do a search for your name and the 2016 election. Here is one gem from you:

“That certain candidate did not do this, BUT had he done so, he’d have been correct. You Trumbies are insufferable.”

Nope, he is trying to take the heat off.

It was a stupid tweet, muddled the waters, and hacked off both sides.

He can’t do anything because Sessions just said he can’t do anything..and I have said that more than once on this thread.

And SCOTUS has already rendered an opinion in a 4-4 vote

"He’s pushing them to pass an amnesty. They can't. Do you see how few have come forward to speak in favor of doing something? Only RINOs who are running for President and want to look compassionate. The rest will face primary challenges if they come out in favor. Democrats too. "All he needed to do is what he promised during the campaign and end the program. Lots of ways to end a program. You can kill it, choke it, etc. He ended all new applications. No new aliens can apply. Others have just 6 months of renewals left. So, I see it differently than you do. Best.

Sessions cancelled DACA, but Trump threatened to revive it in six month if Congress can’t come up with an amnesty bill for him to sign.

I recognize that if we try to remove 10+ million, it will take many years. Meanwhile, they still cost us $113 billion per year. The court cases will essentially shut down our judicial system.

In principle, this is a bad idea, but it may actually be one that saves us money, lowers crime, gives Americans more jobs, and takes the insane burden off our school system.

Here is where we start. No welfare for any illegal aliens. No jobs without e-verify. Remove immediately anyone who has committed a crime, including not paying taxes by taking money under the table and using someone else’s or a fake SS number.

When they see how bad the above will be for them, we offer an alternative. If you turn yourself in, give fingerprints and DNA so you can’t come back in and double dip, and have no criminal record, we will give you $5,000 to leave. That is $20,000 for a family of four, the average income in Mexico. Perhaps it is paid in a couple installments.

By not having to find them, we will save an enormous amount of time and litigation costs. How much do attorneys get paid on both sides of this mess? Remember that it costs us $113 billion every single year. If 10 million took advantage of the program, it would cost us only $50 billion -— that is a one time cost and eliminates $113 billion every year.

And we also send home the prisoners in our jails. The home country gets $5,000 per prisoner.

In addition to removing those who don’t belong here, we have been compassionate and allow them to start a new life. Their home country, mostly Mexico, gets an enormous influx of money.

So if you were here illegally with a wife and two kids, got no more welfare, and could not get work, what would you do? Perhaps we even offer $7,500 for the first million who come forward.

Huge potential downside: drug cartel scum waiting for their return so they can rob them. Perhaps money comes to them monthly in an account so they don’t have a wad of cash on them.

HERE IS ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE:

Give the Trump organization a 99-year lease on Baja California and let them build housing and other infrastructure for all these people. I actually envisioned that one about 25 years ago.

“All he needed to do is what he promised during the campaign and end the program.”

DACA is rescinded. No more applications for DACA are being accepted & President Trump has kicked the issue to Congress who has the Constitutional responsibility to legislate a DACA program if they so chose.

Reads to me like President Trump is keeping his promise to end the program. It’s not happening the way we might prefer but it’s happening nonetheless.

He caved...

Nope.. I don't think so.. see how it plays out. By throwing it at Congress, Trump has turned DACA into a bargaining chip. In return, he very likely wants funding for the wall, passage of health care reform and repeal of birthright citizenship... or maybe all three.

He did, and is daring Congress to put their name on it. Him just ending it would not forbid them from trying to do it on the sly.

Now you can do your job by controlling your congresscritter., Now that it is in the open.

“If you really don’t think it is muddled you should read the news.”

Why would I read the “news” when I can read President Trump’s tweet & decide for myself?

IMO, President Trump’s tweet about “revisiting” is nothing more than another shiny thing for his detractors to chase.
