Idiots will stay, and then look for others to come rescue them.

Keys are 3-5FT above sea level... with a storm surge of 6 to 8 ft and then 25 to 35 ft seas... this could be the end of the keys!!!!

“It’s going to be crazy getting out of here, gridlock,” said Bradway, “Getting out of the Keys, there’s only one way in and one way out. It’s going to be crazy.”

Smart man. Get out while the gettin's good. Hopefully, some have learned from Harvey. Central Florida might still not be far enough.

“...Monroe Co. Emergency Operations Center Director Martin Senterfitt. The grim outlook prompted Senterfitt to order mandatory evacuations.”

It may be a bad decision to stay but can someone explain who and on what basis someone can make an evacuation “mandatory”? We have this debate in my county all the time during snow storms.

I would rather they say “we will not bail your stupid arse out if you stay” and actually stick to it. You stay you bear the full consequences no rescue choppers, no airdrops, etc..

These islands should never have been inhabited. They should have become federal military bases or prisons. Just look at a map of the keys - they are right out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by ocean. Anyone who remains on the island is SCREWED.

I went through the 165 mph northern eye wall of Andrew. It stripped all the green from the trees and shrubs and plants, only leaving the grass. Something like that hitting the Keys would be beyond catastrophic, it would be biblical.

I’d say it’s a good idea to take a week or so off and visit another state.

Where do they evacuate this far out? Unless they decide to go inland in north of FL, they could be evacuating to where the storm actually has an effect. Besides that, there's a Hurricane Jose not far behind.

Any sensible evacuation would be to get out of FL and get inland.
