BAY CITY, Tex. — “I’m gonna mash ‘em out.” Ryan Ashcraft spotted some cattle loitering in standing water under a clump of trees and came out of a long, sweeping curve in his small helicopter to drop toward a clearing so narrow it seemed the blades might give the treetops a haircut — and potentially send Mr. Ashcraft and his passenger on a one-way trip to the afterlife. Mr. Ashcraft, 22, dipped toward the cattle and then pulled up sharply and hovered; the maneuver made the blades produce a sharp POP-POP-POP-POP-POP. The animals hate the noise, which puts many of them on the run. [snip] ...Ranchers and officials have set up a number of supply points across Texas with free hay and fresh water for cattle, as well as provisions for other animals. More than 80 makeshift shelters have been established ...

Yes!
Good story here; very sad about all the lost livestock the ranchers will be dealing with.

The veterinary clinic in Denver where my daughter works put up a single “Donations needed for pets in Texas” plea on Facebook and completely filled a three-horse trailer top-to-bottom and front-to-back. Customers and donors pitched in to help load the trailer. They drove it to Texas the end of last week. Everybody who works at the clinic is so happy to be helping.

The outpouring nationwide has been incredible. I’ve seen stories from people as away as NY and VT gathering supplies and heading down.

Amazing the difference between a disaster hitting Texas as compared to ... pretty much everywhere else.

Remember the commercial that was played right after the opening credits...? “Reach for Nabisco. Reach for Nabisco. The bright red seal on the package end means there’s mighty good cookies inside, my friend.”

It sure has done much to mitigate the 24/7 alt-right/left debacle, that’s for sure. The one thing I can say is that we don’t sit around waiting for help. You are correct, though. Amazing difference

What 13 year old at the time didn't have a crush on "Penny"? She was such a cutie!

I just looked her up on Wiki. Gloria Winters played "Penny" on all nine seasons (and there were three "Sonbirds"). But I just found there are some things you'd rather not know in life...Miss winters was only four years younger than my Mom! Yikes! Did NOT want to know that!

I think Sky King was probably one of the reasons I packed up and left the East and Midwest to move to California.

Too funny. I remember sitting on the floor in front of the Radio. I can hear the sounds in my head....and I’m 73.
