Trump 'speaks in ways that I wouldn't' on North Korea, but US must show 'strength': Ted Cruz

exas Sen. Ted Cruz said President Donald Trump "speaks in ways that I wouldn't" on North Korea but that it helps to "have a president who is strong."

The Republican senator told ABC News "This Week" co-anchor Martha Raddatz that if North Korea's claim that it successfully tested a hydrogen bomb Sunday is true, it is "a serious escalation in their ability to commit mass acts of murder" that will spur calls for "further serious steps to prevent North Korea from using those weapons."

"North Korea right now, it’s the most dangerous place on the face of the planet," Cruz said on "This Week" Sunday. "Kim Jong Un, who’s the dictator there, he is radical, he is unpredictable, he is extreme, and he’s getting more and more dangerous weapons."

Raddatz asked Cruz about Trump's prior warning that the United States would respond with "fire and fury" to any further provocations from North Korea.

"Do you think [the president's threat] hurt or helped?" she asked.

"The president speaks in ways that I wouldn't speak, but that is his prerogative," the Texas senator said. "I do think it helps for North Korea and for China to understand that we have a president who is strong."

"I think the president is right that Kim Jong Un and other bullies only understand and respect strength, that weakness, that appeasement, encourages this action," Cruz said.

He added, "In term of what happens, listen, no rational person wants to see a military conflict with North Korea, with the nuclear weapons ... [In] almost any scenario, you're looking at tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of casualties in a matter of days.'

Best way to show strength: give the USN a directive to if possible, sink every NKor submarine, preferably using means other than torpedoes. Plausible deniability is good.

Best bet, use undersea drones to shoot them with short range explosive harpoons.

That’s a good point. Trump gave Cruz a prime speaking slot, and even with Hillary as the alternative, Cruz couldn’t bring himself to endorse Trump. A lot of fury surged up against Cruz as a result.

Ted Cruz was wrong in the way he handled some things. He is still one of the most conservative Senators that we have.

Does anybody else realize we have many many “members” here that work to create dissension within the conservative blogosphere?

We need guys like Cruz to help MAGA.

Trump and Cruz seem to have buried the hatchet why can’t we?

We have to quit eating our own.

Dirt bag Progessive commies stick together to the end, us conservatives, not so much......

Yeah we should run Cruz out so Mitch Turtelhead can get his way....

Why is anyone talking to Martha Radditz?!? She is the enemy. She inserted herself into the debate to defend Clinton so that Trump was essentially debating his opponent AND the moderator.

On election night she cried on the air because Trump defeated her candidate. She is not a fair and balanced journalist.

She is dem shill and should be ignored.

PS her boss stefenafogus owes his entire career to the Clintons. He even donated to the Clintons foundation and lied about it. He promised to recuse himself from election coverage and then didn’t.

These people democrat party operatives. Shame on Ted Cruz for legitimizing them.

Knowing that almost everyone here won't actually read the article because they just can't get past their derangement, it might be nice to that despite the cherry picked partial quote, Cruz is is 100% supportive of Trump and the language he uses speaking about the NorKors. But hey don't let reality get in the way of hate.

Cruz is dreaming of a successful 2020 primary of PDJT. Ain’t going to happen. Notice instead of backing POTUS, he is passing himself off as the guy that has all the answers. Same old stuff. Curiously, his voice sounds less nasal and squeaky. So that was a welcome change.

The article was written in such a way to disparage both Trump and Cruz and appear to be a wedge between them.

It certainly reveals that there are still entirely too many mentally deranged Cruz-haters on this forum. It's good to know who they are, so that we can ignore their other comments as the ravings of madmen.

A Bomb = death toll in tens of thousands size of blast measured in kilotons

Yes, there's a physical limit on the yield of a fission weapon.

H Bomb = death toll in millions size of blast measured in megatons

Not so fast, there. Yes, a fusion weapon CAN have a multiple megaton yield. It can also have much lower yield, down to hundreds of tons. They are extremely scalable. Our largest weapons currently in service are in the range of 200 - 300 kT.

Well, I’ll hand it to Cruz; at least he didn’t take a hard-line critical stand on this. He did admit that it’s Trump’s prerogative to speak any way he pleases, and he did allude to Trump’s strength.

I’m glad Cruz isn’t our president.

I dont see anything wrong with what he said. He is supportive of Trump in his remarks immediately following.

The most serious issue here is that we now have a deranged SOB phat little Effer with the most deadly weapons on earth and we had better face him off before he drops one of those things on either us or our friends.

"Trump and Cruz seem to have buried the hatchet why can’t we?"

I'm, sure by now Senator Cruz knows that any Republican that was elected in November would have taken the same amount or more abuse then President Trump has as would a replacement successor to the president. Saying he might have done things differently is not a claim of superiority. I credit President Trump for Trump's resilience during the onslaught.

What’s been ignored is that about a week before North Korea tested its neuclear device Putin ordered an evacuation from certain border areas with the Norks without offering any explanation.

You’ve been anti-Cruz since the beginning. Don’t pretend otherwise.

The primaries are LONG over. Time to move on and support Ted Cruz, a fine conservative senator.

Yup. The ongoing hatred toward Ted Cruz on FR really bewilders me. FReepers even clinging onto anti-conservative media spin to feed their hatred.

President Trump did what he had to to win the primary, and then the election. I support him, as our President. I affirm a lot of what he is doing. I defend him daily.

That said, he was wrong to call Ted Cruz a liar, to imply that his dad was involved in the assassination of JFK, and so on. And FReepers are wrong to continue damning Ted Cruz for those ludicrous accusations, for supposedly sinister links to Goldman Sachs, and so on.

Let’s all move on, support Trump’s conservative agenda, and support representatives like Cruz who are working to right our nation.

Or be gullible pawns of the anti-conservative mainstream media. Whatever.

No need to lie. I started out as a big Cruz fan. I tried to get my entire family behind him.

If you reread my post, you will discover that I am merely answering a question. Someone asked why ill feelings toward Cruz persist. I offered an explanation.

You have consistently left a lot of anti-Cruz comments. That is the truth. You have been calling Cruz a liar since early 2016, and have worked against him since at least 2015.

As I said, the primaries are LONG over. Time to move on and support Ted Cruz, a fine conservative senator.
