If Rep. Adam Schiff has his way, the Secret Service wouldn't be able to pay any businesses owned or operated by President Trump.
The California Democrat announced Wednesday his plans to introduce an amendment to an appropriations bill meant to fund the government for fiscal 2018.
The amendment reads: "None of the funds made available by this Act to the United States Secret Service may be used to purchase, rent, or otherwise acquire goods or services, including hotel rooms, office space, or golf carts, from entities that are owned or operated by the President or the immediate family of the President."
The creation of the amendment, which would apply specifically to the next fiscal year, comes after USA TODAY reported that Trump's frequent travels usually to his own properties and his large family have put a financial strain on the Secret Service. More than 1,000 of its agents have already hit their salary and overtime caps for the year.

If the Democrats didn't have double-standards they would have no standards at all!
I used to think you couldn’t pass laws that affected exactly one person, but I guess all the pork barrel earmarks in spending bills for “a company in [a specific state] involved in the manufacture of [a specific product]” has paved the way.
Ex-VPs only get protection for six months, unless there’s a reason. Today’s multimillionaire politicians don’t usually need or want SS protection but for their bloated egos.
So wouldn’t that apply to all presidents? In other words the Secret service couldn’t pay the Obamas, either Bush or the Clintons. I understand the rent paid by the secret service to the Clintons pays their mortgage
I think you must not want another businessman to be President ever again
And how did the Clinton’s SS fund the additional cottage built to house SS agents on their property? And the wall around Obama DC resident ?
Simple minded worthless Democrat. Damn are they ignorant.
a Russian bear at that!
Thanks, I wasn’t sure about VP which is why I add, “IDK”
Congress is passing a bill that specifically targets one person for punishment? Really?
Does anyone remember (or can resurrect articles on) just how much the Klintoon’s charged (and are probably still charging) the Secret Service for their quarters on the Klintoon Chappaqua property?!?
Democrats are nothing but a bunch of stinking pr!cks...
The Secret Service built a house on the Bill and Hillary compound in Chappaqua so their agents would have living quarters there."None of the funds made available by this Act to the United States Secret Service may be used to purchase, rent, or otherwise acquire goods or services, including hotel rooms, office space, or golf carts, from entities that are owned or operated by any present or past President, congressman or senator or their immediate families.
This restriction also applies to any person campaigning for election to the presidency, the House of Representatives, or the Senate."
The Clintons now own the building but it was built with taxpayer money.
The Clintons charge the Secret Service rent to house agents on the compound.
The rent the Secret Service pays to the Clintons just happens to be the amount of their monthly mortgage for the entire estate.
The Clintons bought the house next door & they demand rent of $10,000 a month for the Secret Service to be there.
$10,000 a month
Unconstitutional. Joe Biden got rent for Secret Service on his property. To not pay it is a third Amendment violation.
To suggest the First Family surrender their SS protection is just beyond the pale.
But since he brought up the subject, maybe Schiff could share with us what the SS bill for Europe- and island-hopping Zero and his jetsetting, partying on confiscated boats and being drunk-dragged out of events, family, has racked up over the past 6 months....
astualy see this as a good thing long term. think of the money the Clintons charged the secret service for taking up space on president Clintons property.
No, I’m just suggesting we turn it back in this guys face. Like most Senators, I’m sure he’ll retire significantly richer than whatever meager circumstances he entered off in was.
I believe George Washington was our previous richest President before Trump and I highly doubt he liquidated his businesses, in fact I assure you he continued them and continued to have an interest in them.
