Irma expected to be hurricane by week’s end

Tropical Storm Irma picked up strength Wednesday and is expected to become a hurricane by Thursday or Friday, making it the fourth hurricane of an increasingly busy season.

In their latest advisory, National Hurricane Center forecasters said sustained winds had reached 60 mph as the storm rolls west at 15 mph. While it’s too early to tell what threat Irma may pose to Florida or the U.S. Coast, it has the potential to gain significant strength as it crosses warm tropical Atlantic waters — sea surface temperatures are more than 2°F above normal — and encounters weak wind shear.

Irma is moving along the southern edge of a high pressure system that’s helping steering it, forecasters said. During the next three days, it’s expected to slow and begin turning toward the southwest. However, after that, the models diverge on which path the storm will take.

What worries meteorologists is that the storm will track very close to a latitude and longitude in the tropical Atlantic that historically proved a turning point for threats to the islands and the U.S. coast. It’s also not yet clear whether the high pressure system, or a low pressure trough, will win out in a tug of war over which direction it takes.

“A little too close for comfort,” Colorado State University hurricane researcher Phil Klotzbach said in an email.

However models forecasting so far in the future can be notoriously unreliable, he explained.

“Beyond seven days, I really don't much put stock in computer model forecasts,” he said.

“However models forecasting so far in the future can be notoriously unreliable, he explained.”

Yet they can predict global warming absolutely and definitively.

He certainly left the proverbial cat out of the bag, didn’t he? Did he intend to do it, or did he blurt it out? Why do I ask? Because nobody ever blurts out a lie. If it’s blurted out, it’s the truth. Of course, in THIS case, we already knew the truth. The prof merely agreed with us.

Al Gore will Blame HUMAN CAUSED GLOBAL WARMING FOR IT before that.

Answer: because it is the truth. The models are imperfect.

Did he intend to do it, or did he blurt it out?

Yes, he probably did.

Klotzbach is with the Colorado State University meteorology dept... was an underling to good-guy and denier William Gray (past away a few years ago). Gray taught his students well.

Joe Bastardi is the absolute best by a long shot at near and long predictions based totally off of all the variables..

Cue the media blaming Trump in 3...2...1...

I can hear it now. The narrative will go something like we had zero hurricanes during the Obama years but whenever a Republican is in office blah blah blah

Can I play this silly thinking game? I blame Africa. They have too much manmade global warming. Now, hear me out. The natives are not flushing and therefore, just like the cows, there is WAY too much methane gas. (Or was it horses, I can’t always keep up with the daily blame game). And since all the hurricanes start in Africa, they are sending us the brunt of their gasses.

So, where do I collect my hundreds of millions of dollars for my astute observations? Oh wait, I have to do a foolish movie first. How about “The Gassie Masses and Warmth Felt Around the Globe”? I may need some help on a catchy title.

Joe Bastardi is a student of history. He draws his forecasts from the analogs (past weather patterns) and correlates them to the models. He correctly predicted Harvey making a counter-clockwise loop before heading back to the gulf LAST WEDNESDAY. Check out today’s update on this storm. He called it out days ago.
