That’s the way they want it. How else could we subsidize our own demise?

Don’t we pay tax on clothes as well? I bought a pair of socks and sneakers a few weeks ago and I’m pretty sure they taxed me.

BS! We spend more on taxes than HOUSING, FOOD, and CLOTHING combined. If they only got up to FOOD & CLOTHING, they weren't counting all the taxes we suffer from.
To: GrandJediMasterYoda
You’re not getting the point.

That’s only true if you’re actually on balance paying taxes. Since roughly half of the country doesn’t, it’s twice as bad for those who do.

I just did a detailed retirement budget--in my case federal, local and state taxes were three times the family food and clothing budget--a little less than three times if you include the dog food. No wonder I have such an "attitude" on this topic.

We’ll I’d like to buy more clothes. And better food. But I can’t. Having said that, most would be shocked at how much I make and still be in this position. But between healthcare, health insurance, taxes, fees, tolls, assessments utilities and such, I’m feeling pretty poor.

“Tax Freedom Day” was on April 23rd this year.
For 4/12 of the year, the average American works for the tax collector.

No great surprise, here. It’s been like this for many years, in our house. And, we are not high wage earners.

Much ado about nothing. Food is cheap and the markup on clothes is so high just wait for the prices to go down. Made in Pakistan helps.

They sent all the jobs overseas so people would think things are cheaper and they could raise taxes and they would not notice..

I’ve been there. I used to work with people that made a lot less money than I did and couldn’t understand why I couldn’t afford all the nice things they had, and expensive lunches everyday, and Starbucks two or three times a day. I was saving some money too with tax differed retirement plans, which was one of the wisest things I ever did.
