Japanese Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso sparked outrage Tuesday after suggesting that the Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, who persecuted millions and sought the extermination of the Jewish people, had the right motives.
The comment was made in an address to lawmakers of his ruling Liberal Democratic Party to provide an example that politicians are remembered for the results they achieve regardless of their motivations.
Hitler, who killed millions of people, is evil even if his motive was right, Aso said, as quoted by the Japanese Kyodo news agency.
The remarks sparked outrage, and the main opposition Democratic Party questioned his suitability for his two rolesAso is both deputy prime minister and minister of finance.
Aso then issued a statement clarifying his position on Hitlers crimes and retracting his comments.
"It was inappropriate to use Hitler as an example, and I retract that," Aso said, according to the statement quoted in Reuters. "That I am very opposed to Hitler is clear from the entirety of my remarks, and its clear that Hitlers motivations were wrong."
"My comments differ from my feelings, and its regrettable that they caused misunderstanding," he added.

Are they blaming Trump for his comments ?
Sounds like he made an “Aso” of himself......
:rimshot:
He must’ve illegally voted for Trump
“Voter fraud, BOTH SIDES” right, Libs?
They both thought they were super races.
Aso the a-hole !
German greatness was really Der Wanker’s motivation?
If someone is fighting a war, and in a hard fight, which action speaks to winning being their main motivation?
“Dedicating all resources to winning.”
... or ...
“Diverting huge amount of your limited resources from the war to exterminating non-combatants who are doing nothing to materially help your enemies.”
Had he said Stalin, the media would be cool with it.
Probably. Those two just had a long telephone conversation and reported that it was all about North Korea. :-)
His over all intent was to be god like to the people. Similar to Kim Jong-un. That was evident with his thirty-point program for the future of the German churches where he replaces all bibles and religious text with Mein Kampf.
You’re an a-h, Taro Aso.
Regrettable “my words caused misunderstanding?” Sure, buddy...I don’t think anyone misunderstood you.
Well, I read somewhere he is responsible for the VW, so maybe that's it.
It is axiomatic on the Left that "ends justify the means". As they said in the French Revolution -- "to make an omelet, one must break a few eggs".
This Left-wing obsession with "I can do anything at all so long as my motives are pure" is the source of great evil in the world.
As I see this Japanese fellow, he is making that exact point -- it doesn't matter what Hitler's motivation was, he was Evil no matter how you slice it. Your motivation is inconsequential. Who cares? We will judge you by your outcome. And if you murder millions of people, you are evil. Pure and simple.
Bringing up Hitler in any conversation is a bad idea.
I understand what the guy was saying, but even so, don’t bring it up.
Motive isn’t much of a benchmark, truth be told. Hitler thought - and he said so - that a world without Jews would be a better world. Murdering six million people was, therefore, done with “noble” motive of creating a better world in mind. That sort of moral dislocation is one symptom of madness, and it’s contagious.
If Aso really said that, he does not belong in any leadership position. Someone who is Deputy Prime Minister would have to be educated and cannot claim ignorance about Hitler’s crimes. The only good thing to cross Hitler’s mind was the bullet when he shot himself.
John F. Kennedy was a great admirer of Hitler.
All power-mongers look up to him as a role model.
Or, as they would say in Japan: “Aso ha aho desu.”
The only confusing thing about WWII is watching History channel covering Barbarossa. I never know which side to root for. I want both sides to lose.
