Every president, going back to George H. W. Bush, has had to handle a natural disaster during his term.
For the aforementioned Bush, it was Hurricane Andrew. For his son, President George W. Bush, it was Hurricane Katrina. Bill Clinton faced the devastation of deadly tornadoes in Oklahoma, and Barack Obama experienced Superstorm Sandy.
One thing all these leaders had in common was their response to the victims from reassuring messages of hope to comforting hugs.
Focus on the victims of Hurricane Harvey, according to the Washington Post, was missing from President Donald Trumps visit to Texas on Tuesday.

The idea of producing an up close and personal narrative is a purely lib sentiment. Observe, orient, decide and act is Trump’s style.
I also suspect that there was very little disruption of rescue operations due to his presence.
So far they have criticized Melania’s shoes & this false “lack of empathy”.
The Dims & media are so pissed that POTUS has done such a great job handling this disaster, & they have no legitimate reason to criticize him.
The Urinal is not a creditable source
The Urinal is a propaganda rag, stained with the blood of slaves that cut the wood to make the paper
Last summer he was meeting with people in Louisiana and hugging some when he brought the truck with supplies.
In real time, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution did not praise George W. Bush on Katrina (sorry I can’t speak off hand about the prior Republican Presidents). It and the mainstream media lambasted Bush. They were reflexively partisan. It is (another) lie that they are criticizing Trump but didn’t criticize prior Republican Presidents.
The following is word for word what the lyin’ Atlanta Journal-Constitution said about Bush. It;s exactly the same, no sympathy for the victims line they’re now saying that only Trump is guilty of.
“Each time you hear a federal, state or city official explain what he or she is doing to help New Orleans, consider the opening paragraphs of a July 24 story in the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
“’City, state and federal emergency officials are preparing to give the poorest of New Orleans’ poor a historically blunt message: In the event of a major hurricane, you’re on your own.’
...
“And yet apparently there was no emergency plan and no resources to evacuate ‘the carless, the homeless, the aged and infirm.’
“In this era when we are a nation at risk of terrorism and natural disasters, we can only hope that what is happening in New Orleans is not built into the fabric of our national homeland security policy. We should provide security for everyone, including the poor, aged and infirm.”
>>And, why wouldn’t they lie? They’re Democrats. They’ll steal from you, and regulate you like you were a slave, and give them a chance and who knows what else they’d do to you. We know what they think you are. You’re deplorable and irredeemable.
Any photo ops inside shelters would have been called pandering. There would be tweets that he gave babies cooties. Nothing will make them happy.
No, just get on with signing orders to aid.
Texans are not about weeping, wailing and hugs. We don’t waste time on that emotional crap, roll up your sleeves and get to work. Trump’s response was 100% correct for Texas. I know it wouldn’t work for the touchy feely libs and snowflakes, but as we all know, snowflakes don’t last long in Texas.
They are truly and, as always, predictably, contemptible.
I guarantee you that woman in Houston who went off on that CNN reporterette wasn’t looking for reassuring words and a comforting hug. She was looking for food, water, and a dry place to go for herself and kids. I’m sure she can probably appreciate a man of action like the president who isn’t full of fake sentiments, but someone who gets things done.
If they expect anyone to believe that Bush was praised by the press during Katrina then they are beyond help.
That is what I say. There is not one action Trump
Could take that his media detractors would approve of, including his involuntary organ muscles and heartbeat.
I got over the tweeting thing a month ago.
I say “Do it!”
Trump’s attitude: The hurricane made a mess. Let’s get together and fix it!
Let us not be victims. Let us be conquerors.
If Trump had arrived just before the hurricane, and with all his might, blew the hurricane away from the coast, and magically stopped the rain, they would be attacking him for that.
Opposition party’s media will always look for something negative to say about President Trump. President Trump is a man of action.
President Trump won’t pander to people with an “I feel your pain” faux news bite like the left, while doing little to ameliorate the suffering of Americans.
Meanwhile, our new FLOTUS is awesome. What First Lady ever went with her spouse to a disaster?
Trump attacking symptoms (hurricanes) rather than the problem (globull warming).
LOL, he just wore ya down!
Funny. I don’t use any social media, but my reasoning was:
The media is hostile.
No question.
Why waste the time with communications of ANY kind, positive or negative, when the media is going to spin them 100% negatively before exposing the public to the information?
Why even give the Bas***ds the power to shape your message? Let them lose their minds over the tweeting of the information. That will keep em busy.
A hug never fed a hungry child. Words never housed a homeless family. There. Right back at them.
