Trump breaks with previous presidents in response to natural disasters

Every president, going back to George H. W. Bush, has had to handle a natural disaster during his term.

For the aforementioned Bush, it was Hurricane Andrew. For his son, President George W. Bush, it was Hurricane Katrina. Bill Clinton faced the devastation of deadly tornadoes in Oklahoma, and Barack Obama experienced Superstorm Sandy.

One thing all these leaders had in common was their response to the victims — from reassuring messages of hope to comforting hugs.

Focus on the victims of Hurricane Harvey, according to the Washington Post, was missing from President Donald Trump’s visit to Texas on Tuesday.

I really loathe presidential hugs. Did Ike hug? Kennedy? LBJ? Nixon??

The press, on the other hand, is acting the same as it always has. And a CNN reporter wonders why people jeer him...

ME TOO! They do NOT need to get up close and personal with people....sheesh. They just need to do their JOB....which, as we see, the press hates that President Trump is doing.

It is a failing newspaper. If you are on the north side of Atlanta, the Marietta Daily Journal is a pretty good paper.

I would rather have swift action in recovery from the destruction than a hug.

Anyone with a memory can recall how the media savaged GWB after Katrina for political purposes.

Now, forget about all of that - because GWB just followed the time-worn traditions of disaster management, and its now TRUMP who is the outlier.

Once again, FAKE NEWS and manufactured narratives at their worst.

Oh, FFS!

Trump breaks with past presidents because he's not out hugging people in staged photo-ops.

Really? You guys at the WP are that desperate?

Give me a break.

Exactly. Which is why I am all onboard with Trump tweeting (even though I don’t use Twitter)

Don’t even bother going through them for anything, except for criticizing or making fun of them.

Yeah, all those others were good at the photo ops. Esp Obama. So, if Trump went down there, and with Melania did a lot of hugging, and holding babies, the ridicule would be heard from Corpus Christi to Miami.

He can’t win. Right out of the gate they’re criticizing him for going there too soon. Melania mocked for wearing stilletos “to” Air Force One. They mock cause he didn’t approve funding fast enough, ignoring that he designated it a disaster area BEFORE the storm. Now this.

Ignore them. Totally ignores these people.

They just need to do their job

President Trump had that fire house meeting where federal, state, and local officials met each other and learned what everyone's role is in rebuilding. If that isn't the President's most important job, providing leadership, I don't know what is.

The silver lining could be that some of the maniacs' enablers finally get it that President Trump is the only one standing with us to save the nation.

Sometimes hugs and "I-feel-your-pain" semantics mask incompetent leadership and inability to comprehend the massive organizational and orderly rescue, recovery and rebuilding skills sets essential to meeting the needs of suffering individuals!
