Well, there are anti-trust laws. But like any law these days, enforcement depends on who gives how much to the politicians and to the regulators.
Also, my understanding is that at an earlier time there were strict laws to prevent corporations from purchasing other companies outside of their own core business. The reason being one company should not be able to control all areas of the real economy, for obvious reasons.
I hear that was done away with years ago.

Total e-commerce sales are less than 10% of total retail sales. Amazon is about half that total. Walmart is closer to 10% of all retail sales. Do we want the government to step in and break up every company that has more than 5% of industry sales?

Broke up Standard Oil, and AT&T... and base don their behavior should have broken up MS back in the late 90s... but didn’t
