I’m all ears :)

You can follow up the insult cartoon with your reasoning why it is ok for Amazon to grow so big

Maybe it is. Maybe it isn’t. I’m no expert on the subject.

I do know after a while prices tend to REALLY rise when one company owns everything.

Check out the meat prices at amazon fresh BTW.

Start at about 20 a pound.

Re: the BTC/AT&T breakup cartoon.

The Bell Telephone Company/AT&T was way too monopolistic. Imo it should have been broken up in the 50s, latest. It also held a stranglehold on teletype forcing the US government to continue using a 100 year old technologies (telephone and teletype).

It was also very expensive for a mature network, i.e. they were price-gouging. $30 per month in the ‘70s for local calling with ala carte long distance. That’s like $100/month today for local calling via a single land line which you rent from the company. It wasn’t until after the breakup that you were allowed to own and use your own phone.

FWIW the internet likely would not have become what it is without breaking the monopoly. BTC/AT&T would have used its stranglehold on USG communications to (continue) to block competing technologies.

i remember when we’d write letters to schedule long distance phone calls after 11:00pm when insane LD rates dropped to merely exorbitant rates so our family could afford to briefly speak to my mom’s parents who lived a 100 miles away.

now, 35 years after the breakup of AT&T Bell System monopoly, unlimited phone calls to anywhere in North America cost me under $10.00/month thanks to unlimited competition and practically unlimited advances in technology unleashed by the breakup.
