CNN has reacted very badly to the political rise of President Trump, promulgating fake news and presenting an echo chamber of negative commentary. Now, the struggling news channel appears to be trying to manipulate the ratings.
Even if its not the originator of the Fake News model that now largely defines the MSM, CNN has certainly perfected it. This past week, the situation seemed to rise to a shocking new level with the CNN programs that followed President Trumps prime time address to the nation on Afghanistan on Monday and his 80 minute speech Tuesday night to a campaign-style rally in Phoenix. On Tuesday, for example, CNN host Don Lemon followed Trumps speech with a live appearance by the channels new contributor James Clapper, former director of National Intelligence in the Obama Administration. Putting it rather politely in an article on Wednesday, CNN said that Clapper:
. . . questioned President Donald Trump's fitness for office. I really question his ability to be his fitness to be in this office, and I also am beginning to wonder about his motivation for it.
CNN is engaged in a desperate ratings war of attrition with its competitors the Fox News Channel (FNC) and MSNBC. In the new era of Trump, CNN, like MSNBC, has been trying to gain traction by being the go-to source for the Resistance and the Never Trumpers (RINOs who have opposed Trump from the onset of his campaign).
For CNN, the ratings battle has not been going well. On August 1, 2017, A.J. Katz, one of the leading and most objective analysts of the TV news business including the ratings, wrote in TVNewser:

Word on the web is the CEO of CNN will be fired soon.
If that happens, then I imagine Don Lemon’s days will be soon over.
Could happen.
You are correct. I just heard Roger Stone state that Zucker will be gone, shortly.
And Don Lemon has been among the more practiced of the purveyors of this skill.
I thought something seemed fishy when I was seeing tweets from CNN’s communications dept. about how they had the highest ratings ever (or something along those lines.)
It’s only drizzling in Texas. Back to Trump bashing!
Now that would be great!
The rest of the Fake Steam News would melt down if that happens.
What I get p*ssed about are the POS NeverTrumps and former Kenyan Administration talking heads who say idiotic things and enable CNN. They all must think we are stupid because their talking points are always the same as in the case of retarded brothers by different mothers Clapper and Lemon.
That puts him up there in good company with the likes of the black Georgia congressman who thought Guam would tilt over and the black congresswoman from Houston that thinks astronauts have landed on Mars.
What intellectual idiots.
I saw a CNN ad graphic a couple of months ago boasting how its programs had increased by 100% to 150% over the previous month. [I wish is had bookmarked it.]
Although the percentage increases in several CNN programs were impressive, I noticed it did not give actual numbers — intentionally and deceptively.
“”CNN is engaged in a desperate ratings war of attrition with its competitors the Fox News Channel (FNC)””
Can’t see that happening - there isn’t much left at FOX to watch except Tucker Carlson. That would include Hannity if he’d get rid of that idiotic monologue that’s nothing more than a rehash of what we’ve heard for months and who wants to tune in for that? Jesse Waters is great but not paired on The Five with those bimbos... The News Specialists or whatever it’s called at 5 is unwatchable.
That’s it IMO. No word yet on Eric Bolling? Another good one gone! He should have been given his own show at 5 WITHOUT the women!
Do they think advertisers are stupid enough to pay big money to advertise to no viewers because CNN and NBC use tricks to fake the ratings? Maybe for a little while but revenue doesn’t lie and when there is no ROI for these ads that will stop fast, and since it they were being lied to and hence robbed, it will stop forever.
CNN the Queens of Fake News and probably fake ratings!
And the brilliant of that is the network is already carved out on countless cable networks and airport feeds... No need to get on cable company network.
I remember with Cox cable in early 2000s Fox News was not carried till like 2003 after lots of complaints this new CNN would not have that problem
I don’t think CNN needs ad revenue. I think they are supported by international financial sources to push a political and social agenda.
I like Lou Dobbs on FOX Business, except sometimes he gets to talking and won’t shut up and let his guests speak.
CNN is just a small part of Time-Warner. HBO, DC Comics, the Turner channels, and many other media. The can afford to keep CNN afloat as a campaign contribution to Democrats. But greed will limit how much they are willing to throw away on CNN.
My husband will switch over to him too. I stay in my computer cave away from all of it! I think Kennedy comes on after Dobbs and then that channel goes away as her voice is as bad as nearly every other female voice on FOX..My husband doesn’t hear well but he can hear that! LOL
This is the same false reporting that google or twitter and other online companies etc do to manipulate their stock price. AOL with millions of free accounts signed up which led to the Time Warner/AOL scam. Newspapers lying about how many subscribers they have using free papers being handed out and counting them as subscribers or the tv networks lying about ratings. Hollywood lying about if a movie makes a profit so they can write off taxes.
Google announced this week it was returning 7% to 10% of the ad money to the advertisers.
In short they got caught stealing the advertisers money and they decided they will keep 90%+ of the stolen money.
