Harvey’s intensity and rainfall potential tied to global warming

Global warming is making the oceans hotter, fueling the intensity and flooding potential of storms like Harvey, climate scientists said as the hurricane approached.

Driven by higher-than-average temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico, Harvey quickly intensified Thursday and is likely to reach Category 3 hurricane status before it hits the Texas Coast.

The average temperature for most of the Gulf was 86 degrees, said Kevin Trenberth, a climate scientist with the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado.

“That makes it almost the hottest spot on the planet” for sea surface temperatures, Trenberth said. “It’s an area that’s ripe for vigorous development to occur.”

And then there is some inconvenient hurricane history re Hurricane Camille in 1969, adapted from Wiki...

Hurricane Camille was the second-most intense tropical cyclone to strike the United States on record. … Camille formed as a tropical depression on August 14 south of Cuba from a long-tracked tropical wave. Located in a favorable environment for strengthening, the storm quickly intensified into a Category 2 …Emerging into the Gulf of Mexico, Camille underwent another period of rapid intensification and became a Category 5 hurricane the next day as it moved northward towards the Louisiana–Mississippi region. … hurricane quickly re-intensified back to a Category 5 before it made landfall in Waveland, Mississippi early on August 18 with a pressure of 900 mbar (hPa; 26.58 inHg). This was the second-lowest pressure recorded for a U.S. landfall…

So much of Texas and the SW and even the Mid West was once called the Great American Desert because it lacked consistently adequate rainfall.

Farmers have been draining aquifers since they were found and drilled in the Texas Panhandle for years.

A good dose of climate change for more rain might be great. Sorry, Houston, you have a problem.

....The hurricanes in the mid-1800’s were more fierce; guess they didn’t know about global warming then....

And the hurricane that killed thousands and destroyed Galveston in 1900 can be blamed on that too.
Liberalism and the democrat party are based primarily on lies and deceit.

Anyone doubting the potency of global warming should come to central Massachusetts and see the ever-decreasing size of the Great Hassanamesitt Glacier.

My sleeping in this morning was tied to global warming. Maybe me getting fat as well. Stress = Eating, even despite fasting between meals.

I think this article was in the loop for printing with just the subject line for location left blank. As soon as there is a major hurricane, bingo, punch in the Corpus Christi area and let it rip. They probably have had this one in the loop since Katrina. A few more years and they would have needed an updated computer operating system to put it out.

BTW, the galveston storm of 1900 was far more severe, I guess the global warming at that time must have been ahead of its cue.

“Hurucanes are Trumps fault”

And I’d bet before this is over that people will say Trump did what he could to give aid to only counties who voted for him.

Yeah I read about that 1900 unnamed storm. Camille also was a freak super storm, and Betsy was no cake walk either. I guarantee that Mississippi will never forget Katrina either.

But America is a country with no history, so none of those storms ever happened.

Because not having a hurricane in 12 years is somehow also proof of globull warming?? Liberals are idiots.

Global climate alarmists have been warning us every year that man-caused climate change would bring us more and more hurricanes every year and they would get stronger every year.

And every year they have been wrong.

Now, after 12 years without a major hurricane, we get one and they start their crowing again.
