Amazon’s $13.7 billion purchase of Whole Foods Market will be finalized Monday, and shoppers will see an immediate markdown in prices on a number of items, including salmon, avocados, baby kale and almond butter.

Now we have a Whole Foods in town, but I haven't visited yet, because their prices are so high.
We have one in Destin.
Right down the street from WalMart and a Fresh Market....................

I wonder if the quality of other things will change, though. I only shop at the one in town because of their ridiculously good cheese and charcuterie area, their olive bar, etc. For real food, it’s the Asian veggie/farm stand or Publix.
It is so ridiculously expensive, agreed.

I do not share the current fascination with avocados.
They taste like wax display fruit to me. Of course, I don’t eat guacamole either, so to each his own.
I do like salmon and cooked shrimp quite a bit.
I will be investigating any such sales.
Whole Foods also has a good selection of local honey.
Beer sale end in my town yesterday. A 6-pack of 6.7% local craft beer for $7.99. Much cheaper thsn randalls safeway and some others. Even off sale that is true

I can’t see how the Whole Foods environment translates to shopping online. One can’t help but suspect its main function will be to take enough business away from other local health food stores to drive them out of business.

I don’t believe it.
There will be promotions, sales and loss leaders to get people into the store but over time they need to make a profit.
Amazon overpaid for Whole Foods and they need to get a return on their very expensive investment.
The only way to do that is to reduce quality and/or service and increase prices.
And after they put the competitors out of business, they raise the prices.
Prices will be lower...until Amazon takes over everything. Then they’ll charge whatever they want.
Or, Whole Foods will become a very important tax write-off for Amazon as Amazon doesn’t really care about Whole Foods.
Take a big tax write-off as the brand goes down the tubes. The real value to Amazon, beyond the tax benefit, is reverse engineering the whole food/agricultural distribution process. Whole Foods is Amazon’s lab rat.

Really?! There's nothing Amazon can do on the operations side to improve efficiency and productivity? You're probably right. Amazon doesn't know a thing about low-cost operations.
