Your first hurricane?
I can tell you how much not fun it is to ride one out even without damage and how much more not fun it is to endure the days without power afterwards even with a generator in the waterlogged sweltering heat. Roads washed out and we were isolated. They focus on recovering high population density areas first as they should. I think it took about two weeks to get to us.
We lived in an acreage subdivision for Ike. Didnt take long for people to become wary of each other. We had a well and water so rigged a tap for others at the front gate. Didnt run generator full time so no water full time. Some got angry at that.
People stay because of looting, pets, freezers, etc.
Took us a week of hard work just to rake a few limbs and loads of twigs.
Could have just been the stress of having gone through the storm and having to endure the aftermath, the sweaty discomfort, and then running out of water. But, poor planning on their part does not equate to obligation on your part, so they should have somehow managed to hold their tongues and their tempers. You didn't have to give them access to any water at all.
Thanks for that link——looks ominous already.
.
Cool. That will be interesting to see later...
That was a downright neighborly offer. Good for you.
Just very happy to be gone from there. Our house was always high and dry. We planned that when we built it. With so many people in the Houston area you cant avoid the risk of them. We seem to be development magnets. Every quiet spot we have found explodes around us.
There were only a few malcontents. I didnt deal with them but watched from behind our closed gate.
The heat and humidity and pollution there are brutal on houses. Never mind hurricanes and floods.
Ill watch from the farm in the Ozarks. Tornados and ice storms I can deal wih too.
And too late and made a mess of things and if the storm had actually hit it would have been a disaster.
Pressure down to 948mb within the past hour.
I’m going to guess from the attitude and the general cluelessness that we’re talking relocated northeastern or west coast urbanites, because just about anybody else would know by hearing or not hearing your generator, whether there would be any water available or not. It doesn’t just magically materialize in the hose or the faucet.
Was it Rita that resulted in complete highway gridlock with Houston area evacuations? People were running out of gas while sitting for 10+ hours in the freeway parking lot.
You're originally from CA, aren't you?
You’re originally from CA, aren’t you?
LOL...no, several generation/native Texan.
I was originally going to say the Katy Fwy, but realized many, here, might not know that is I-10.
We headed West on I-10, to San Antonio area, for Rita.
I’ve never heard anyone other than Californians call an interstate “the I-10” or whatever number, it’s just “I-10” to everybody else in my exposure, which is why I asked.
Aggie Mama-
I think we corresponded during the last round of hurricanes in Houston. We’re still in West Houston also - hunkered down.
Let’s keep in touch - stay safe!
Thanks for the heads up, as not aware off that product.
A Coworker lost all her koi last hurricane, due to power outage. As long as I have water pressure I plan on just running the hose to aerate.
And yeah, it’s too late to be on the road. I can already hear the sirens.
Yep.
