Yup. . .my son lives there and yesterday departed CC for San Antonio. . .arrived safe and staying with friends.
Can’t forget, minorities most affected. . .according to Antifa the storm is racist. . . would be nice if the antifa crowds all assembled on the beach to protest the storm and pray to gia to move the storm to “white” areas.
Yes, that could be shaping up as a worst-case scenario for Galveston... a slow mover major storm first throws massive amounts of water into the bay behind the barrier islands (overwashing them as it’s happening), and then after the eye passes pulling that water back out over the islands from the ‘wrong’/unprotected direction.
The entire Texas coast is in serious trouble.
Going through an eyewall replacement cycle at the moment, which means a wider windfield.
I would not be surprised if there are a few tornado reports out of the environs near Houston this morning.
Sure hope everyone from Corpus Christi to there was paying attention - this one popped quickly in that bath water of the Gulf.
I'm at 14' and not worried about flooding but sitting around waiting for power to be restored is not my idea of fun.
If aeration is a problem, one could get one of those aerators fishermen use, powered by D-cell batteries, and a bag of alkaline D-cell batteries. There is a “Bubble Box” (brand) aerator that is claimed to run up to 44 hours off a couple batteries. If not quite as strong aeration is needed, one can run off one battery at a time, and may be able to stretch the usage per battery out further. (Disclaimer: I do NOT know how the current draw varies with 1 batt vs. 2.)
Some of the rechargeable batteries have greater storage capacity than alkalines*, but you don’t have time to get such and charge them, I’d say! Much less a way to recharge them once power goes out.
*I have tested some D-cell NiMh batteries at well over 7000 mAh capacity.
However... At this point, you’ll be lucky to find any batteries in the stores, I’m afraid...
In my layman's opinion: I think it is a mistake to not take this one very seriously along the coast and immediately inland.
Gotcha.
They did make all lanes northbound, at least that is what I was told.
Pleased to hear you are safe and well positioned.
Be safe. . .

Beach webcam to watch. Not sure how long it will survive.
Staying around means being well armed. The ferals are unlikely to leave and see empty homes as a easy target. Home the National Guard gets in there but they can't be everywhere.
wow..eye is out on the infrared
already 3 inches of rain along the TX coast insluding Galveston county
radar estimates seem to be matching actual reourts
this will be t he historic radar to follow

I don’t see where the OP quoted from the media in the original post. NOAA and the NHX are usually pretty matter-of-fact when it comes to hurricanes. Sometimes they “miss”, but, that can go either way, and is the nature of forecasting the weather.
Shoot, one of my major complaints when we got clobbered by the big ice storm in 2009 was that while the forecast was fairly accurate, those putting out the warnings were not apoplectic enough, or at least not strong enough, in warning of what the effects of that much ice would be. For example, for some people, there was no power for 3 weeks, in early February, mind you. Almost no one prepared for anything like that...
Oops, that’s “NHC” in my prev. post.
I dont see where the OP quoted from the media in the original post.

I don’t quite see why that’s relevant. My point was that some people don’t take these warnings seriously because the media has cried wolf so many times in the past.
That doesn’t mean that they’re doing so THIS time - but I suspect that’s part of the reason a number of people are saying they’re going to “hunker down” and sit the storm out.
But since discussing the effect of the media in this thread is frowned upon, I’m bowing out.
I do hope everyone stays safe, however.
I told my neighbors to feel free to shoot looters and I would replace their ammo.
