Solar Eclipse 2017
On August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. Viewers around the world will be provided a wealth of images captured before, during, and after the eclipse by 11 spacecraft, at least three NASA aircraft, more than 50 high-altitude balloons, and the astronauts aboard the International Space Station each offering a unique vantage point for the celestial event.

Certainly no issue for those in totality regions. In fact, the NASA link cited appears to say that you can look at it with bare eyes in totality when it states:
Make sure you take your solar glasses off too during totality because filters will no longer be needed!
Funny listening to people’s comments on the progress of the obscuration — some are totally clued in, know the physics and geometry to perfection, others haven’t a clue. But everyone here seems to be having a good time. Sunny, of course, about 65 degrees here on the lake at 4,000 ft, slight breeze off the lake. I don’t have eclipse glasses (partial eclipses are boring), so I listen to the others for progress reports. Won’t need the glasses during the 70 second totality here.
TY We are recording NASA and ABCs coverage starting I believe at 1 PM Eastern
Unfortunately where I live we will only see 68%.
Interesting. Think I’ve seen that once before but wasn’t paying as much attention. I’m looking forward to seeing the black bands roll across the lake about 23 minutes from now.
GReat ambience with smoke in the air as well...
They have linked it
Hope it gets dark enough that I can take a leak without the ladies up on the embankment getting a sideshow.
People are mentioning that the sky is noticeably darker in the last few minutes. I agree. I’m looking the other way from the sun and definitely don’t need sunglasses now.
People take pictures of sunsets all the time. It won’t hurt your camera.
Where are you?
.
Oh, something like 70 miles from Boise. Chipmunks already getting quieter. I’ m sleepy, too but didn’t go to bed last night.
{chuckling}
Weather Channel gal is almost hysterical. Temp there (Oregon) has dropped from 74 to 67 in 20 minutes.
Eclipses cause global cooling!!!! Who’da’thunk’t?
Thanks, but remembet to stay “woke”. :-)
.
Okay, totality come and gone here in Oregon Willamette Valley. Spectacular. Very visible corona, and a red spot or two on the edge of the disk. Light getting brighter rapidly.
Here in Tacoma, they said it would be 93% covered? At best it appeared to be 60%?
More fake news or ??
Any one heard the muslim position regarding their Moon god eclipsing the sun across the breadth of these United States?
Are they taking it as an omen?
Will they get froggy?
Hadn’t thought of that aspect.
Best place to watch is the NASA live feed, which is being streamed on YouTube.
