THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

GEORGE GERSHWIN

THE GOLDWYN FOLLIES

ROSEMARY CLOONEY: “LOVE IS HERE TO STAY”

Rosemary began a second career in the Eighties when she methodically took on the composers of the Great American Songbook in a series of disks. This is from a live performance at the White House in 1993, and while she looks like somebody’s grandmother and has grown as big as a house, it doesn’t get in the way of her chops. She turns the White House lawn into an intimate jazz club.

Hiya radu!

I had a good lunchtime and hanging out with daughter and I did a quick cosmetic fix on her car.

She's heading back out in the morning to her home in Seattle where her kitteh is anxiously awaiting her return.

Wazzup with you and the 'lil darlings?

Glad you had a good time. A shame she has to get back home so soon but her kitteh will be glad to see her again. They don’t like being left behind. At least she only has the one to tear up the house while she’s gone. LOL

Things are ok here. We went out for a bit to celebrate Hubby’s birthday but that ended sooner than we hoped. The bar had a band tonight that was NOT good and we all left fairly early.

The lil darlings are not being very darling tonight. They’re wound up like two-dollar watches. Just had to clean up the mess they made knocking over a trash can.

GEORGE GERSHWIN

THE GOLDWYN FOLLIES

MICHAEL FEINSTEIN: “LOVE IS HERE TO STAY”

Michael’s mentor was Ira Gershwin himself in his final years, so he goes right to the source. This is just Michael and his piano in 1987 with a short talk on George and Ira’s art.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

GEORGE GERSHWIN

THE GOLDWYN FOLLIES

KIRI TE KANAWA: “LOVE IS HERE TO STAY”

When it came to the songbook, New Zealand’s favorite operatic soprano had a gift for recreating period performances. This 1986 recording shows what it would have sounded like in a theatrical production in the Thirties.

Kiri Te Kanawa: “Love is Here to Stay”

Tune in tomorrow night for more George Gershwin and the Great American Songbook.
