OSCAR PETERSON: “LOVE IS HERE TO STAY”

Oscar accompanied a number of major singers in Gershwin songs, and here he takes it on his own in a Smooth Jazz version from 1959. This is great piano work with fine support from his sidemen.

What Bobby Carlyle was to the New York club scene as a male vocalist, Blossom was to the female side. She has minimal backing, as she would in a club, and puts her own spin on the tune in this 1959 recording.

DEXTER GORDON: “LOVE IS HERE TO STAY”

Dexter was pretty much unknown outside the Paris jazz scene and American be-bop afficionados until the movie “Round Midnight” made him a star in 1986. He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor, which was a fine capstone to a career that ended four years later with his death. He plays a mean tenor sax and gets fine backing from his sidemen in this 1963 recording.
