Officials in Manassas, Virginia, say they are canceling an upcoming Civil War Weekend due to safety concerns. The event had been planned for later this month. "Recent events have ignited passions in this country surrounding the Civil War and the symbols representing it. The City of Manassas is saddened by these events and abhors the violence happening around the country," according to a statement from the city's communications manager Friday. The statement went on to say Manassas doesn't want to "further exacerbate the situation." The city's Civil War Weekend had been scheduled to be held Aug. 25-27. Officials have called off the event "for the safety of our residents, visitors and reenactors," the statement said. Manassas was the site of two Civil War battles.

So what is going to happen to Civil War reenactments? Will only the boys in blue be allowed?
That effectively has already happened here. As I understand it, all the Confederate reenactors have pretty much disappeared because of the way things are. They don’t want to be called racists.

It will simply disappear. When was the last time you saw a network/movie channel run it?Gone With the Wind is available for viewing by Amazon Prime members now. Wouldn't shock me if were pulled, but it is still available.

Long time event. Sadly I predicted it earlier this week and I can tell you reenactors are ticked over it.

Long time event. Sadly I predicted it earlier this week and I can tell you reenactors are ticked over it. I thought that would probably be the case. I guess neglecting to mention that fact in the article makes the cancellation seem less significant.

It’s an old white dude thing so useless to society. It’s something to put time and passion into. Not my thing but good for them. History is full of cool shit. Reenactment od the parts people find fun, interesting or important is part of their constitutional rights. BLM and commies can go to hell and painfully.

So, it’s bunker mentality? You mean this MINORITY of thugs has now won the country?

his probably is NOT going to sit well with the Re-enactors.
If you meant "nutty" as obsessed" then yes they can be. My brother is a very avid Civil War re-enactor.
He has the gear to play both Confederate and Union cavalry officers of various ranks. Plus he has several horses to pick from when he travels to these events during the summer.
He is a teacher and he is very worried about these events as well as the tearing down of the statues. He is worried these Antifa types infesting the public school system and thinks it may be an end of his career because being an Civil war enthusiast is equal to being a Ku Kluxer in the wackos eyes.

I have a friend who paints toy soldiers and refights the civil battles on a table top - I guess the games will have to be a little one-sided from now on?

AMC ran it this past Spring.
But I guess that might be the last time.
