The Alameda County District Attorney filed a felony charge against Kyle Chapman yesterday for possession of a leaded stick. The charges stem from a melee between Trump supporters and anti-fascists in Berkeley on March 4. Chapman was seen carrying a long baton into several fights and was filmed cracking the weapon over the heads of a masked antifa and other counter-demonstrators.

At the same time, I’m very, very uncomfortable with those who support the Nazi and white nationalist movement. They are racist and I want nothing to do with them. I don’t know his background well enough to say where he stood on that so I’ll keep my powder dry.
The reason we are losing our history is on display on this thread already, with only a few posts.

Pray tell, what sort of "success" did the Tea Party accomplish? What legislative victory was obtained through these beautiful peaceful demonstrations?
I don't know if you read Glenn Reynolds of "Instapundit", but he has pointed out repeatedly that "We tried "nice" with the Tea Party, and you ignored us and even used the power of government against us. Now we are trying a more belligerent approach with Trump. You will not like what comes after Trump."
The Tea Part was ineffective. Trump is more effective, and if they succeed in taking him down, there is a very good possibility that things are going to get much much worse than what they are now.
That sure doesn’t look like a lead-filled stick to me.

Thank you. You expressed my position eloquently. I don't want to support Nazis or White Nationalists, but I do think these violent left wingers need to be beaten back with force.
I also think we are setting a dangerous precedent if we allow a "hate speech" veto of the right to assemble and the right to speak.
The Liberals will move the goal post on what constitutes "hate speech", and then any advocacy of Christianity will be called "hate speech" and banned.
Or you can snipe at your allies that are doing the actual fighting from the safety of Free Republic.
