Durham County Sheriff Mike Andrews says his office is working to identify individuals who pulled down the Confederate statue on Durham County property Monday night.
Andrews statement comes amid reports that sheriffs officials were present when the statue was pulled down, videoing the act but not intervening to stop it or arrest those doing it.
Breitbart News reported that protesters placed a tow rope around the neck and shoulder of a Confederate statue and pulled it down from atop the monument on which it stood. WNCN reports that protesters took turns kicking the statue once it was on the ground, and at least one protester spat on it.

Sure, sure and O J will find the killer one of these days.
And give them medals of Freedom, no doubt.
All my confidence in this clown can fit in a thimble..
I believe I’ve seen at least three identified in comments on the Sheriffs Facebook page already.
Why didn’t you stop and arrest them on the spot, Idiot?
What, the backlash kicking in now?
We Will Identify Those Who Pulled Down Confederate Statue.. already done... Liberals.
Punishment: None
Fine not to exceed $100, with the possibility of 24 hours of community service.
Charge them with Vandalism of Public Property.
That’ll teach ‘em. Course the aclu will have them overturned because, wait for it.......................1st amendment rights. See how that works?
Are they going to put the statue back up?
This phony with a badge won’t do shit.
Not if the Mayor can help it!!!
Brilliant! They should have given it head butts.
Were these inactive police under his command? His claim that he will go after the vandals may be a reaction to the criticism he faced. If a group were attempting to pull down a MLK statue, would the police just stand by? Only leftists are given room to destroy. The Jefferson Memorial is now under attack.
The Marxists do not believe in preserving history, so it can be taught, warts and all. When history is preserved all sides of it can still be openly discussed, as it should be among free people.
Like religious zealots in Iran and Saudi Arabia who tear down edifices that are contrary to a “pure Muslim” view of their lands, Marxists have their political orthodoxy and must literally destroy history so that all can be learned is what they “teach”.
Real American so-called “progressives” instead of tearing down every Confederate edifice, would keep them alive and let them remind folks of the Confederacy, but in doing so admit that just like many in the north, some who were not saints were also not the incarnation of the devil.
Like all persons ALL THE time, they were in a large part the product of their times, and interpreted their times by their own experience more than “grand and noble ideas”. The founders of the 1770s were not less, and no better - just imperfect people, like all of us. That is no excuse for slavery. But destroying anything historical relating to it do does not make a positive standard for teaching history. It is only done to erase history.
If it - destroying examples from history - becomes a social and cultural approved standard, singling out the Confederacy will not be the end of it. Objects which are claimed to somehow represent other politically incorrect beliefs of the day will become new targets.
I will believe it when I see it happening.
His officers stood by while criminal activity was taking place and they did nothing. If Antifa types aren’t subject to the same law as the rest of us, then no one is subject to law at all.
Let this “Sheriff” know how you feel:

Hah! I noticed that...what a bunch of morons...so courageous....kicking a statue! That’ll look good on their resumes, when and if they ever seek employment. They all looked a bit long in the tooth to be students.
