Several players plan protests following violence in Charlottesville Colin Kaepernick still without a team after protest last season Bennett says protest is not a sign of disrespect for military
The day after Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch sat out the national anthem, his former team-mate Michael Bennett has followed his lead.
The Seattle Seahawks defensive end, who is known for his strong views, sat with a towel draped over his head during the anthem before Sundays game against the Los Chargers. Bennett said he plans to continue the protest for the rest of the season, and his stance was influenced by the far-right violence in Charlottesville over the weekend. Colin Kaepernick attracted attention when he chose to kneel for the anthem last season as a protest at racial injustice in the United States.
The last week, with everything thats been going on in the last couple monthsespecially after the last couple days seeing everything in [Charlottesville] Virginia ... [I] just wanted to be able to continue to use my platform to be able to speak on injustice, Bennett said after Sundays game.
Professional football is soooooo 20th century.
NFL GTH!!! There’s lots more fun things to do
The NFL is dead.
I will not be made to care.
They sure are making it easy to leave the NFL behind. It’s got to feel like dealing with a petulant 3 year old for some coaches.
sooner or later, the team owners are gonna have to individually address this with their players - a team meeting to be specific.
It has to be something like this...
“Gentlemen, standing for the flag during the National Anthem is a sign of courtesy, a sign of respect. You are certainly entitled to feel otherwise - but you will not show it or say it while you are on this field and I’m writing your paychecks. Failure to comply means that I will instruct the coaching staff to bench you for a indefinite period of time. If this persists, I will take the appropriate measures to ensure that you are not on this team. Lastly, please be advised that this subject is not up for debate, either internally or externally. I will not have you bring shame to this team via your antics.”
The NFL Death Spiral, live and in your face!!
Someone like Brady needs to sit down to protest the violence on the left and far left.
The NFL obviously does not wish to be the national football league of the United States of America.
Good Riddance.
After more than one thousand blows to the head over ten years, such behavior is not surprising. Look up Michael Bennett in five years. It won’t be pretty.
... until he realized that Lynch actually was photographed sitting on the sideline eating a banana. :-P
Question: Did they or did they not put the NFL cameras on them?
I for one love it. I’ll be watching my team but that’s it.
Killing the goose that lays the golden egg. Fringe players that are just lucky to have a job?
Time for Americans to completely boycott the NFL. Let the players haul trash for a living.
I didn’t watch most games last season (I spent Thanksgiving with friends who had the Redskins game on) and to my surprise I didn’t miss it. I bet I won’t miss it again this year.
DVR. Fast forward through the onfield “celebrations”, announcer palaver, and bombastic commercials. Probably take about an hour to watch :)
Hmmm. Could someone just classify colon krapernick as the designated sitter? That way others wouldn’t have to actually sit. Kinda like buying carbon credits from algore.
:: just wanted to be able to continue to use my platform to be able to speak on injustice ::
I think I can see a problem here.
Maybe he is “Sacking QBs for Justice”? Tell us how that that works, Miguel.
Oakland and Seattle, figures the Seattle coach is a leftist a-hole.
I quit last year after 50 years. Not missing it.
Let them get real jobs.
