The first piece of advice he got was Dont take off your shoes. The second, Dont go to the bathroom after dark.
Though Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams heeded both, it didnt make him feel any less vulnerable. There was little that could as he settled in for a night at the downtown Road Home homeless shelter.
When he climbed into bed the top of a three-person bunk with his sneakers still tightly laced to fend off would-be thieves, arguments echoed off the walls. One man had passed out on anothers cot, and McAdams heard the thud of a head smacking the cement floor when the sleeping occupant was yanked off the mattress.

I didnt go as an exposé, he said.
LIAR
I specifically remember Peterhead Jennings reporting time and again on this “homeless” problem in the late 80s. I guess it happened all the sudden, eh, Pete? Or perhaps it was more of agenda -driven “news”?
Nevertheless, here we are 3 DECADES later, and still the same issues, only with billions of tax dollars and billions of private/charitable dollars . . . and countless volunteer hours poured in. So whatever facade the Mayor wants to make, it’s not a curable problem, as hobos will be hobos and bums will be bums. And especially if Big Brother is not going to enforce the borders or the drug laws.
Episode 1, “Undercover Bum.”
Say hi to Pepto for me.
I would like to hear from all of the good Mormon friends on Free Republic as to how the Mormon church can allow this to happen in their fine city. I thought they were the most effective welfare provider that exists. At least that’s one of their talking points.
And what an amateur fraud this bleeding heart is.
The US only has homeless people when a Conservative is president.
It would be better if politicians posed as middle-class tax-paying families.
Well, like a lot of celebrities that have gotten down in the slums to see how it is.................. REAL friggin’ easy when you know your salvation is only a phone call or hand wave away. Now that’s roughing it huh? Assclowns.
So what?
True dat!
Amen to that!!
Isn’t it a fact that you can’t force homeless to go to a homeless shelter? That police can’t do anything if someone isn’t committing some other crime??
Isn’t it a fact that some homeless say they won’t go to shelters; they would rather be on the streets or in homeless encampments???
If we can’t compel homeless to get help and get off the streets, and if some homeless actually avoid homeless shelters and other helping organizations, then how does this issue ever get resolved???
Church Youth Group did a “sleep-in” to “raise awareness for the Homeless.”
Brave little kids slept in cardboard boxes, ate pizza, drank soft drinks and enjoyed heated Parish Hall with restrooms just down the hallway.
I suggested that the next time they want to advocate for the homeless, invite the homeless into your own house and feed them, keep them warm, show them compassion instead of empathy.
Yep, no takers.
Hard to believe this is Salt Lake City. It used to be so wholesome, what happened?
Well, we could address the insane cost of housing and the government policies that got us here...
Do you think that there are homeless because of expensive housing??
Well then you get to issues of letting strangers into your home. Strangers who are likely to be mentally ill, which is part of why they are homeless in the first place, because they can’t live a normal life due to mental problems.
With Mike Lee and “RAT” Romney here in Utah, we have a big problems with a lot of people being ‘Anti Trump’ especially since we went to court and got back the 40 delegates that Lee and Evans tried to voter fraud to Ted Cruz...
This State has a big problem...with homeless, with drug cartels and having Mesquite Nevada on the southern end of marijuana and the West side of Reno Nevada on the western part of the State, Idaho has marijuana along with Colorado...so it's just a matter of time before Utah has both medical and recreational marijuana...
We need to really vet who is running to lead this State...I would like to see an ‘outsider’ like we have in President Trump...no favors, no hanky panky like with politicians...
