A new documentary urging people to ditch animal food products and start eating vegan is 'irresponsible' and 'misleading', according to a leading nutritionist. What The Health, which debuted on Netflix in March, tells viewers that the is one healthy way to eat involving cutting out all animal products from our diet.
The documentary, a huge success on the streaming site, says that meat, fish, poultry and dairy are making us fat, giving us cancer, and poisoning us with toxins. Directors Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn said their aim was to help Americans make healthier food choices. But New York City dietitian and nutritionist Mary Jane Detroyer tells Daily Mail Online: 'It was one of the most poorly represented documentaries I've seen.' Currently, America is experiencing obesity, diabetes and heart disease epidemics driven primarily by the Western diet. The Western diet, which is characterized by high fat and high sugar meals, has come under attack by nutritionists as the cause for these serious health problems.
But the film presents the facts in a way that misrepresents the information and scares people into thinking all of the food they eat is poison, Detroyer explained. 'A lot of what the information they presented was valid. For example, they make the claim that research conducted by the American Heart Association is paid for by food industries, which is real and is a problem,' she said. 'But on the other side of that, If these studies aren't supported by businesses, the research won't get done. It's a double edged sword.' Detroyer walked us through her biggest problems with the documentary.
1. What The Health claims processed red meat causes diabetes
The documentary makes the claim that one serving of processed meat a day raises the risk of type 2 diabetes by 51 percent.

I personally love many vegetables, fruits and grains.I also love chicken, beef, pork and lamb (not a big seafood fan).
Even if it's true that eating "vegan" would let me live longer I won't do it.To me,quality of life is at least as important and quantity of life and a nice juicy steak adds enormously to quality of life.
Good, I hope all Leftist lunatics give up meat, it will only lower the price for sane people.
i watched a bit of this a while back and was flabbergasted at the blatant lies being told. The most egregious one was that eating meat and animal fat causes diabetes and that a grain-based diet does not.
We used to Criminally and Civilly Prosecute people for Blatant Fraud such as this, put them in Prison and Take all their Assets from their Fraud.

There is no greater scam in the world today than the blatant and outrageous lies told to everyone from school age onward over the last 40+ years when it comes to diet, exercise, health and various risk factors associated with same. The root of the scam goes back even further, but it really became evident with the so-called “food pyramid” which emphasized refined starches (breads and “white vegetables”) and claimed that fats were bad for you and should be limited.
Then, the scam evolved. Only saturated fats were bad, so it was claimed. The rest weren’t so bad. And of course what we all heard was to eat more “natural”, meaning vegetables — mostly.
We were also told that weight was all about calorie balance. In .vs. out, thus the exhortation to exercise — to increase the “out” and to restrict calories, in order to decrease the “in.”
This may sound easy and is demonstrably, if you can stuff someone in a lab, it might actually appear to work.
But it doesn’t work out in the real world — ever.
It doesn’t work because the advice on what to eat was all a lie and the people who ran it knew it was a lie — especially for people with any sort of metabolic derangement. Of course before there were insulin and drugs if you became diabetic you had two choices: Stop eating carbohydrates or die from the effects of the disease — and probably quite quickly too.

Demolishing Lies On Low Carb Eating*

The medical industry doesn’t want you to read this.
Nor does the food industry.
But you should read it, and let it sink in.
That leaves CARBS—the basis of the US Govt food pyramid that not only made us fat but started our children on an early path to obesity and diabetes! Think that these things must be sponsored by Kraft and other grain-based food companies. Yep, take meat off the approved list for food stamps, but leave on Oreos, Coke, mac and cheese, and potato chips.
They went so far as to say any pollution that got into the water supply at any level made any fish toxic.
It was really over the top fearmongering that I lasted 10 minutes on.

I am a diabetic, type one. I have to see an endocrinologist frequently and he told me that a high carb diet is what causes high cholesterol, not meat and fats. He said they’ve known this for a long time, but that they couldn’t prove it. Now they can.
I was reading a thread last week right here on Free Republic, and someone suggested the book ‘The Obesity Code’. I downloaded it on my kindle, and it’s been an eye opener, for sure. While I knew probably 75% of what’s in the book already, the volume of info presented to back up the science is fascinating. Have always been fascinated with this kind of stuff, and am nowhere near what anyone would call fat, or even chubby. However, my family is prone to diabetes on both sides, so I like to stay up to speed on this stuff. It also helps with my arthritis if I stay away from processed crap/carbs/etc. Now if they could only make a beer without carbs....
I don’t give a damn what they eat, just don’t try to tell ME what to eat.
The growth of cancers and other diseases have roughly paralelled the growth of processed foods in our diet. Ain’t saying that’s the reason, but there must be a connection between diet and disease.
They didn’t get the memo: Toxic waste from U.S. pot farms alarms experts

There is another sourced FR posted that backs this 1 up. How do we know that they use on POT to fertilize it? Especially non-inspected illegally grown stuff.
I bet you there is a paralleling of age and disease.
Was the eating of unprocessed food responsible for shorter life expectancy? After the food pyramid hoax, it's hard to buy anything thrown out there by the pseudo-scientists.
