Cutting Immigration in Half Would Make Americans Wealthier

The bill to curb immigration supported by President Donald Trump would add to the wealth of Americans. Trump on Wednesday announced his support for legislation proposed by Senators Tom Cotton, R-Ark., and David Perdue, R-Ga., that would cut legal immigration into the United States by half and grant entry based on education, the ability to speak English, and jobs skills.

While reducing immigration would cut overall U.S. economic growth by reducing population growth, gross domestic product per U.S. resident would grow, according to an analysis of census and economic data by Breitbart News.

Immigrants are responsible for about half of the population growth in the U.S. This population growth contributes to the growth of the labor force and therefore to Gross Domestic Product. According to Joel Prakken of Macroeconomic Advisers, the reduction in the labor force from immigration curbs would “take two to three tenths of a percentage point off GDP growth every year over the next decade.”

More important than cutting the incoming by half is deporting all of the illegals here now. They are ALL criminals, and they need to go. The #1 reason I supported Trump was because has said “Deport them ALL!”

Would you be happy if half we deported? Serious question. Not stirring things up. If the wall was built, legal immigration modernized and controlled, and half were removed, would you consider that a win?

Too many workers is not helped by bringing in more workers. That’s just common sense.

I doubt anyone except the most zombified anti-Trumpers haven't already seen the effects of less invaders being in the work force. A local Dunkin Donuts, which seemed to mostly depend on relatives who were "visiting" from their homeland now has a huge "Job Opportunity" sign outside. People who can take a bus from the east side of Cleveland seem to be filling more of those jobs in fast food, groceries and retail that had been filled by people whose English was often non-native. Everybody who needs to make a little extra money seems to be employed.

It's Economics. This will lead to more local spending, more hours and even rising wages on the lower end of the spectrum. A lot of this income is going to people who will spend it on necessities, and locally. I can't imagine why politicians are so un-American that they don't embrace this.

This will open up more job opportunities for those currently on unemployment/welfare - if they want the opportunity. It will also reduce the number of new immigrants applying for social program benefits.

I do not get it. How does the influx of unskilled labor and increasing welfare rolls cause economic growth? Was the writer referring to all immigration, or just legal immigration?

Call me a racist, but the Caucasion race that made America its home has steadily reduced its birth rate to accommodate the coming automation boom. That cannot be said of the remaining races. Here’s a link to an analysis -

Time to call a 10-year moratorium of new applications for U.S. citizenship, and boot the colonizadors out of our borders.

All immigration needs to be halted until all job seeking Americans can find sustainable employment. Not one single foreigner should be permitted to work here until our citizens are all working. It is inherently unAmerican, Anti-American to favor the welfare of foreigners over American citizens. This must end immediately and those who continue to work against our citizens must be brought to justice for treason.

deport all the illegals and cut legal immigration in half. and limit legal immigration to people who are self supporting.

it is well nigh stupid for republicans to assent to democrats importing welfare recipients to vote democrat.

but its not just stupid for republicans — the policy of importing welfare recipients is death to america.

It will also increase local spending, what percent of income earned by illegals is never even spent here but instead wired back home.

The ruling elite.learned their lesson post WW II up through 1980. A strong middle class wealthy enough to stop worrying about their finances becomes politically aware and active. Can’t have that.

Makes sense. Who needs 500 million people in the USA?

“” I can’t imagine why politicians are so un-American that they don’t embrace this.””

Politicians are committed to the economic model of more people equals more people to payoff the Ponzi schemes like Social Security, Medicare, or salary and benefits for government employees.

By increasing the number of workers these government programs stay afloat.
