DHS waives environmental laws to begin building Trump border wall

Homeland Security triggered a waiver Tuesday allowing the department to bypass environmental and other land protection laws in order to begin building and testing President Trump’s new border wall.

The waivers apply to San Diego, where officials already plan to upgrade miles of existing fence, but where they’ll also stage a competition this summer to build and test prototypes for Mr. Trump’s wall.

It’s the first in what’s likely to be a series of waivers that will be needed as wall construction ramps up.

Officials insisted they will still try to be mindful of local impacts as they work on the wall.

“While the waiver eliminates DHS’s obligation to comply with various laws with respect to covered projects, the department remains committed to environmental stewardship with respect to these projects,” the department said in a statement.

When the REAL NEWS, ENCOURAGING NEWS. REAL BALL BUSTING NEWS begins to spill forth, these pencil pushers will have run out of ink. They’ve wasted so much on FAKE NEWS.

Do we give them a trophy for participation? They don’t deserve one for honesty and gamesmanship.

Ann Coulter has a daily wall progress update on twitter.

Here is today’s:
“Today’s BORDER WALL CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: Miles completed yesterday— Zero; Miles completed since Inauguration—Zero. NEXT UPDATE TOMORROW.”

One is tempted to ask what Ann has accomplished in her life other than arrange it so she can shoot her mouth off for fees.

Good. To repeat what has been said before regarding environmental laws: If current environmental regs had been enforced during WWII, we never would have been able to build factories, army posts and training areas to win the war.

"Not sure if its as bad today (post-PDJT) but I suspect its the same."

It's not the same after Rep. Rohrabacher pushed through the double fence with a road in-between for Border Patrol vehicles and flood lights. It goes from the ocean to past Otay Mesa. It cut CA crossings by over 90%. It's the reason that southeast Arizona became the focal point for crossings in the Southwest some years back. Why they want to start in San Diego is beyond me. They could extend it eastward in CA, but it's needed more in southeast Arizona and especially in Texas with all its border towns.

I know more than most about this issue having experienced these invaders going through my side gate back in the mid 1980's when living 3 miles from Tijuana. I've been a contributor to FAIR.org and CIS.org for years. I was also a Minuteman who worked with co-founder Jim Gilchrist and made the drive down to Tombstone to stand watch.

Those who say the mountains and deserts are not natural barriers and we need all 2000 miles of wall are just wrong. Look at a map of Arizona and you'll see that from Yuma to Tucson along I-8 has an impassable desert. It would take army type logistics to survive that wasteland. Even if the coyotes/illegals could, there are NO staging points along I-8 where the illegals could meld into local towns. There are only a few gas stops along the way.

Also, The Border Patrol I've talked to do not recommend a solid wall. They want something they can see through like the double fence in San Diego. BTW, it's made of a close-knitted mesh material that doesn't support hooks and has Mexico facing curving at the top with barbed wire. I hear it also now has ground sensors for tunneling. BP finds and destroys these tunnels all the time. San Diego is not the problem.

"Wouldn’t it be the Dept of the interior to do this?"

I don't believe it's a responsibility of the Interior, which I believe is a useless bureaucracy.

"I wouldn’t mind seeing them start in Organ Pipe NM first."

Another bad spot.

What?!? Isn't there a yellow-toed toad or something that might be inconvenienced by the wall?

All I can say, is I have supported Trump on this website since before he even announced his candidacy.

Thus far, I have frankly been relatively disappointed with some of what he has done, or specifically not done.

He has been absolutely ABSENT about Chinese production.

Completely not there.

And he has thus far, been pretty darned not present, on building any sort of wall.

I realize he is the first guy, who has dared to take a position contrary to the mainstream dems (socialists) and the mainstream GOP (globalists), and actually be for building up America once again.

That said, he has not yet done so.

Still waiting.

I support Trump. I supported Trump (very) early.

But he has gone out on the limb for several things I don’t believe are that critical, and he has not yet gone to bat for the things I have strongly supported him for, for a very long time.

Trump, start building the wall. Now.

When I was young, I illegally crossed a few times.

My only illegal crossing was from China into Vietnam, because we wanted to go have lunch in my friend's favorite place, and getting the entry visa would have taken 36 hours. We were only in southern China for another day, so we got brave. Ah, to be young and reckless and stupid again!

(Now I'm no longer young or reckless... )

We might can save the expense of a wall. I heard a report that illegal immigration is down 80 %. It’s down so much farms can’t find anyone to pick the crops.
