Trump hits Venezuelan president with round of sanctions

The Trump administration announced the U.S. will impose financial sanctions on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

The move comes after Venezuela held a weekend election that will give Maduro's ruling party virtually unlimited power in the South American country.

The Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control announced the sanctions against Maduro in a brief statement on Monday.

As a result of the sanctions, the statement read, "all assets of Maduro are now subject to U.S. jurisdiction are frozen and all U.S. persons are prohibited from dealing with him."

"Yesterday's illegitimate elections confirm that Maduro is a dictator who disregards the will of the Venezuelan people. By sanctioning Maduro, the United States makes clear our opposition to the politics of his regime and our support for the people of Venezuela who seek to return their country to a full and prosperous democracy," said Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin in a statement.

In Trump we have the first explicitly anti-Marxist President since Reagan

Sanctions are OK. But how about hitting Maduro with a carrier battle group?

Let’s continue to get tough with governments pushing socislism, i.e., Venezuela, Cuba, the EU, and the Vatican, rather than governments that are not, i.e., Israel, Syria, and Russia.

Just let the country implode on itself without our interference.

Only the Venezuelan people can take care of this problem.

It’s hard for the Venezuelan people to take care of the problem when the “problem” has all the guns.

Maybe the CIA needs to get lots of guns into the right hands down there. We did it before and it worked.

A better idea would be to have the CIA contract a half dozen hits on Maduro’s cabinet.

I’m thinking the solution costs abut $.25

The sanctions apparently do not apply to the Maduro family. the sanctions are at best partially effective.

Unless, Maduro was dumb enough to put it all in his name in a Mam bank

I suspect Chavez stole his own election. He also took part in the attempt in Honduras to steal an election that would have set up the path to Manuel Zelaya dictator for life (like Chavez). It's what commies do (Which is why Obama opposed the coup which ended this scam)

Maduro is only going to get worse. His model is Cuba, and surrounds himself with Cuban ‘advisers’ sent by the Castros. You know, people who show his people the best way to torture someone to death. Aside from the current humanitarian crisis, if left unchecked, Maduro or a successor down the road will be a problem that we will wish we had nipped in the bud back when we had the chance.

The best thing for the USA is just let Venezuela sort out its own mess. I have worked several years in that place and their is no help for them. They like many in the USA feel their government owes them their existence and will support any crack pot who offers them a ham sandwich
