Los Angeles to host 2028 Summer Olympics: L.A. Times

Los Angeles will host the 2028 Summer Olympics after reaching a deal with Olympic organizers, the Los Angeles Times reported on Monday, citing an unnamed source close to the negotiation.
The agreement also paves the way for the 2024 Summer Games to be awarded to Paris. An announcement from the International Olympic Committee was expected later on Monday.
Reuters could not immediately confirm the report.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti's office said he and other proponents of the city's bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games would make an announcement to the news media at 5 p.m. PDT (0000 GMT).

While there are a lot of people here at FR against this i'll say two things: 1) i attended the Olympics four times and had a ball 2) how great is it everyone thought obama's chicago was a shoe-in for the 2016 games and lost in the first round of balloting...meanwhile six months into the Trump presidency the Olympics are handed to the United States!!!! a kick in the gonads to obama!!!

LA is probably the best place for the Games. The facilities are already built for the most part. And the Memorial Coliseum is still one of the best stadiums on the planet.
Paris on the other hand, is going to have a lot of problems with trying to clean up the city from “refugees” for the Games.

The Olympics are pretty 19th Century.
Still, I’m glad LA got it as almost every Olympics is a financial disaster for the host city.
Couldn’t happen to a better place.

Ueberroth is only 80 this year and will only be 91 in 2028. If he is like my FIL, he should be able to do again what he did last time.
I think this time he might sell advertising space on the event names (the Pepto Bismol Biathlon) and athletes themselves (like soccer or NSACAR).
