Okay, its not exactly an apology tour because he spoke the words while on U.S. soil. But it was an apology for America by Trump Secretary of State Rex Tillerson while standing alongside Mexican Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray Caso and Mexican Secretary of Government Miguel Angel Osorio Chong on Thursday during a press conference at the State Department.
Speaking about the illicit drug trade while holding his hand over his chest for several seconds as a symbol of admitted guilt, Trump Secretary of State Rex Tillerson argued that Mexicos organized crime problem is the fault of the Unites States and that the American people need to own up to it:
We know what we own, and we as Americans need to confront that we are the market. There is no other market for these activities it is all coming here. But for us, Mexico wouldnt have the trans-criminal organized crime problem and the violence that theyre suffering. And we really have to own up to that. Granted, the U.S. buys more drugs from Mexico than any other country in the world. But to tie that to making America fully responsible for their organized drug problem and suffering is a huge stretch one that we would expect to hear from an America-hating leftist.
Im old enough to remember former President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry constantly apologizing to foreign countries for the U.S. and back then in the good old days it was called an apology tour and certainly unpatriotic.

I doubt that. There would be a market for illegal drugs in Mexico itself and would anyone bet that some significant amount does not make its way to Canada, and who knows where else some might be smuggled?
Apologized for US? Fire him!!!
I actually think he is right. Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush II, and Obama were ALL responsible for the drugs in America due to poor immigration implementation and amnesty. Rex is 100 percent correct in blaming America. We ONLY now started to take immigration seriously.
Tillerson let the homosexuals in the Boy Scouts, so he’s pretty much about as far left as one can get.
He is right, it is a demand relationship that fuels the drug trade. We are responsible for the demand, but that demand was there for decades without the outrageous violence that plagues Mexico. Mexican cartel warfare makes the U.S. crack wars of the 90’s look like child’s play.
Respectfully disagree. When there is demand you will get supply. Our nation has a massive demand for narcotics and we CANNOT blame that on any other nation. The American medical industry has done their part as well with pharmaceutical driven pain management that led to the opiod addiction of millions.
The cartels were created because of our demand for dope and the profits they made supplying it. I am not pro-legalization for hard narcotics, but when a nation makes a product illegal to manufacture, but hands out needles to addicts and tolerates drug use with porous borders do you not see a problem?
Mexico is not blameless, but this is a multifaceted problem. Blaming them while ignoring our own culpability is not intellectually honest.
You are absolutely correct!
I remember that and found it then, and find it now, VERY offensive. That’s anti God, the worst problem to have.
To everyone ragging on Tillerson; he is right. The US is the biggest market for these drugs. It is not an apology tour, it is a statement of fact. You cannot fix a problem without acknowledging it. We could start with mandatory drug testing of all members of congress every two weeks.
Yeah and I’m sick and tired of stinkin’ a$$hat North American politicians accepting and spreading that guilt crap from Mexican criminal politicians who ignore the fact that drugs are abused by a greater percentage of their serfs than the drug slaves in the US.

That’s not an apology tour
The drug problem is real. Cartels feed the drug problem. The corrupt Mexican government abides the cartels
Although Puzo’s Corleone and family despised drug traficking and opted for casinos instead, many other mafia families wanted to push drugs. A lot of the strife between the families resulted from this conflict over whether or not to push drugs.
Sonny opened his big mouth and doomed Vito.
They do for their addictive substances. Addictions are psychiatric diagnoses.
They are taking up at least half the psych beds available.
Between our state department’s attitude on Israel being the aggressors and the growing crisis with the Norks, Rex seems to be struggling. Hopefully he stays out of climate change and starts pulling rabbits out of his hat.
Fire the ba$$turd! He also likes mooslimbs
Then may be “half the psychiatric population” should disappear.
I’m an economist, and Trump voter. I disagree. It’s not “Simple supply & demand” — there’s a lot of bait-and-switch going on out there in illegal drug markets. That’s not voluntary trade, it’s unlawful commerce. Agreed?
Drugs aren’t what they used to be back in the 70’s, physical addiction is almost impossible to shake if a dealer switches product that you bought, and you’re then hooked on a compound stronger and more addictive than planned. Here in NH, it’s big time. My friend in local EMT/Fire Rescue sees it - practically nightly. Makes you want to throw up, she says. A lot of trusting kids end up hopelessly repeat users or dead, it’s disgusting.
NAIL AND PROSECUTE THESE MEX CARTELS, AND WATCH YOUR BIG AMERICA-BASHING MOUTH TILLERSON
Rex is not an idiot and certainly doesn’t believe this stuff. Is he going undercover as a fake anti-trumper?
It’s not just “supply & demand,” — and Tillerson’s an America hater, needs to watch his mouth. see my post #78. Thanks.
