STATEMENT BY SENATOR JOHN McCAIN ON VOTING “NO” ON “SKINNY REPEAL”
McCain.senate.gov ^ | 7/28/17 | some staffer for McCain

U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) released the following statement today on voting “no” on the so-called “skinny repeal” of Obamacare:

“From the beginning, I have believed that Obamacare should be repealed and replaced with a solution that increases competition, lowers costs, and improves care for the American people. The so-called ‘skinny repeal’ amendment the Senate voted on today would not accomplish those goals. While the amendment would have repealed some of Obamacare’s most burdensome regulations, it offered no replacement to actually reform our health care system and deliver affordable, quality health care to our citizens. The Speaker's statement that the House would be ‘willing’ to go to conference does not ease my concern that this shell of a bill could be taken up and passed at any time.

“I’ve stated time and time again that one of the major failures of Obamacare was that it was rammed through Congress by Democrats on a strict-party line basis without a single Republican vote. We should not make the mistakes of the past that has led to Obamacare’s collapse, including in my home state of Arizona where premiums are skyrocketing and health care providers are fleeing the marketplace. We must now return to the correct way of legislating and send the bill back to committee, hold hearings, receive input from both sides of aisle, heed the recommendations of nation’s governors, and produce a bill that finally delivers affordable health care for the American people. We must do the hard work our citizens expect of us and deserve.”

John McCain is the crab in the bucket that will be dead before the others are thrown into the boiling water but whist still gasping he’s pulling the others back into the bucket to their doom.

I notice he didn’t go to the VA hospital for his treatment.

Too many idiots going along to get along in the GOP.

The Democrats in both parties run the Congress.

Agree. The Dems worked their Kabuki theater aided by Johnny “ the mad hatter” to create the illusion that they are the saviors to all of this, when in fact they created Frankenstein and unleashed him on the villagers.......

McCain wants these 3 things in the Senate health bill
As summarized by McCain's Senate office, the three McCain amendments would:
  • Protect the state from a provision that AHCCCS officials say would cost Arizona as much as $480 million by fiscal year 2024. Ducey has referred to the provision as an "early expander penalty" for states that expanded Medicaid early. McCain maintains that the bill's original language would punish the state because of a voter-approved expansion of Medicaid in 2000, a decade before the Affordable Care Act was enacted. McCain's amendment would repeal the provision, according to his office.
  • Lengthen the phase-out of the Obamacare-related Medicaid expansion to 10 years. The bill as originally written aims to phase out federal funding for the expansion by 2024. McCain and Ducey fear that Arizona's budget could not afford to keep offering Medicaid coverage if the federal matching dollars are yanked away without giving the state enough time to come up with other sources of funding.
  • Revise the Medicaid growth rate, or "inflator," so that it "is adequately adjusted for inflation" and won't "punish" Arizona for having "spent decades reforming its Medicaid program by cutting costs and streamlining services." States with lower-cost Medicaid programs like Arizona's would get penalized by the growth-related formulas in the bill.
  • A justification on his part. intentional kill job, IMO.

So Mr.Mccain you are full of crap,Obamacare should be repealed, phase it out over 2 years while health insurance is put back in the private sector where it belongs

Well stated , but too simple for the “ grease my pocket” crowd..... as they are only interested in what benefits them.

I think The Donald should executive order all of congress onto O Care right now.
They can then spend their own money on buying a concierge Doc to care for their ills.

Exemption for Congress won’t work, because Rino won’t put it out for a vote.

Skinny repeal would have been disastrous and would shift the blame from rats to pubies. I agree with McShame here - total repeal or nothing. Get the hell out of people’s lives. Instead make laws that help the average citizen. This bs about uncovered people - that is what Medicaid was set up for and as far as I know no emergency room can refuse treatment. Just leave it at that except maybe exclude illegals. Turn this whole thing over to the states. Damn, was that so hard?

Well, his reason actually sounds good. Have the other two “no” votes given a reason yet?
