Participant in Cliven Bundy standoff sentenced to 68 years in prison
Los Angeles Times (via TriCity Herald) ^ | July 26, 2017 | DAVID MONTERO

The weight of a heavy sentence landed in the quiet federal courtroom Wednesday morning, leaving Gregory Burleson occasionally stroking his graying beard and his attorney pleading unsuccessfully for leniency.

The 53-year-old Burleson was the first to be sentenced for his role in the 2014 standoff between federal agents and supporters of Cliven Bundy near his Nevada ranch.

He got 68 years in prison.

U.S. District Court Judge Gloria Navarro did take into account his blindness and frailty – he sat in a wheelchair during the hearing – but she also reminded Burleson of his crimes, which included threatening a federal law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice and interstate travel in aid of extortion.

She said agents – who hunkered down in a wash while Bundy supporters trained guns on them, recorded them and shouted at them – were scarred from the experience and suffered mental trauma.

"That isn't something that heals over with a scab," Navarro said. "You can't put it in a cast or stitch it up."

The case has been watched closely as it marked another round between the federal government and those who believe public lands should be transferred to local control. Burleson's trial drew supporters from neighboring states throughout the proceedings, which ended in April, and a handful would gather outside the courthouse to monitor the developments and post updates to sympathizers on social media.

It is long past time for G-d to pull the plug on this corrupt country.

This is a travesty.

Take those guards who are scarred for life and put them in a pen with a ribbon around it and a sign on it that says "Scarred for Life area".

This was not the hill to die on. Bundy was a thief, stealing resources by refusing to pay for his permit to graze on federal lands yet still allowing his cows to graze those lands.

“Who gets 68 years prison these days? What crime?”

The druggie punk who stabbed my cousin 28 times until death, only got 13 years. Out in 7. My cousin was a mess, but if I saw his killer on the street, I jusy might have an accelerator problem with my Toyota!

It’s NEVER “ the hill to die on” with you people...

LaVoy Finicum was murdered by Government agents, and many more before him, but that wasn’t the hill to die on. This man has been murdered by the courts, and it’s not the hill to die on...

Liberty is dead. We have become property of the state, to do with as they see fit; to make an example of if we’re ever stupid enough to believe that we own ourselves or our property.

If you enjoy being a slave to the government that was instituted to serve you, then “this wasn’t the hill to die on”.

When will it be? When they come to kick down your door, shoot your dog and kick in your teeth, I’m sure someone just like you will come along to point out the flaws in YOUR character and announce to the world:

“This wasn’t the hill to die on”.

You know I take terrorism very serious in this country. It doesn't matter if that terrorism is domestic or abroad.

Hell we can’t get 68 corrupt criminals in the Deep State Swamp even 68 days in jail with Sessions at the helm. Unbelievable.

When will it be?

Simple - when people's rights are being violated. Bundy's rights were not. He had his day in court and lost because he was doing / allowing something illegal to intentionally occur.

LaVoy is a separate issue, please stick to the thread topic of the Bundy standoff.

Seriously, this is a great opportunity for President Trump to issue either a commutation or pardon. It would be a win-win for him.

A commutation, reducing his prison time to zero, but him still keeping a conviction on his record, to mollify the federal officers who were “traumatized” like scared schoolchildren when meeting resistance to their oppression. At his age and ill health, having a conviction on his record means little or nothing.

A pardon, removing even that stain. It would also serve as a rebuke to the judge, the prosecutor, and the abusive federal agents.

Either way, president Trump wins. It is also a righteous victory against the excesses of the national police state, that at least the POTUS stands up for the people in the face of brutalitarian excess.

I’m not even discussing Bundy, but if you wish to, why don’t you tell me what he was “stealing” and who the rightful owner would be?

LaVoy is not a separate topic. The topic is the death of liberty in the U.S.; the absolute subjugation of a once free people; the system that we’ve allowed to come into power that will kill you with impunity, sieze your property without due process, violate any principle of law or justice at any time it wishes and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER be held to account because we’re all cowards who don’t see this as “the hill to die on”.

The rightful owner is the US Government, he was stealing by using land that he was not paying for and he knew that he had to pay for that use because he had previously paid for that use. This is something that every western rancher who leases land from the government knows about. You stop paying your lease, you lose the right to access or use that land.

The analogy for a home / land owner would be to lease land to someone for them to use, they stop paying for the use of that land, yet continue to use that land.

LaVoy is a separate issue and not the topic of this thread.

"The rightful owner is the US Government"

Here, we've identified the problem...

If you disagree with the US Constitution and US law enabling the government to own lands, then vote in people who will propose the constitutional amendment and work to get it passed.

Dont point guns at federal agents who or executing lawful court orders!

This is clear retribution and it is sickening. There will be no pardon and this man will die in prison for what happened at The Bundy Ranch, not for his drunken mouth.

There are some lessons we can take from it though. First lesson is that you can not have it both ways. You are either standing up to an oppressive regime or you are NOT standing up to an oppressive regime. Half measures get you 68 years in prison. If you are 100% positive that the regime is oppressive then you should be 100% positive that they will LOCK YOU UP FOREVER!

American Patriot types are VERY naïve in this regard when compared to other actors around the world with more experience with brutal regimes. We still have this romanticized good guy/bad guy mentality about it. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “I’m not covering my face, that’s for criminals”. Well ok then cowboy, enjoy your 68 years in prison.

This is 2017 and everything is being recorded. There is facial recognition technology and nano-drones the size of flies, you are not going toe to toe with the Red Coats in 1776. You are going toe to toe with Darth Freakin Vader and the Empire!

1. Cover your stupid mug
2. Use a War Name like everyone with a brain does
3. If you pull it, use it
4. If it talks to a camera, put it in a lake
