July 26 (UPI) -- Close to midnight on Sunday, Southaven, Miss., police arrived at the wrong house to serve an arrest warrant and shot a man dead in his own home, according to reports.
Ismael Lopez, 41, was shot dead late Sunday night after he checked to see who was at his front door. But the police were supposed to be across the street to serve an arrest warrant for Samuel Pearman, who was wanted on an assault charge, reported WREG.
"Someone didn't take the time to analyze the address," said Murray Wells, the attorney representing Lopez's family. "This is incredibly tragic and embarrassing to this police department that they can't read house numbers."
DeSoto County Prosecutor John Champion said it was "possible" that police went to the wrong house and confirmed that Lopez's name was not on the warrant.

No, I’m going to disagree with you there. The man’s house had already been burglarized once. Then around midnight these unknown men come pounding on his door. He opens the door and the dog goes for them. Dogs’ll do that, especially when their master is (justifiably and visibly) upset. Then the innocent homeowner is shot dead.
So it’s not a case of “no good guys here”. The good guy was shot dead by trigger-happy homiciders representing the Omni-incompetent State.
Then again, you might be jumping to conclusions, BLM style.
Oh good grief! How bout casing the correct address during daytime hours undercover. Make damn sure an officer that has pinpointed the location is with the team for the night time raid.

The police have become the instrument of tyranny that the constitution does not allow, all in the pursuit of “not one officer fails to go home at the end of the shift” policy.
YOUR life is not as valuable, or as valued as theirs are, whether you’ve committed a crime or simply stood where their bullets were flying...
And the real issue is that if the second amendment were respected by the government, heavily armed tactical teams of police kicking down doors would not be necessary under any circumstances. People would take care of their own defense, and police their own communities.
There is an instructor that teaches police that ALL civilians should be considered hostile and that the cop is permitted to treat as such. That’s scary.

They could say "He was shot trying to escape", and some people would blindly accept their statement as the undisputed truth. The contradictory version told by the wife of the deceased is no doubt just nonsense.
I don't know how honest the wife is. I also don't know whether the shooting would be considered justified or not, regardless of whether or not he didn't drop the gun as quickly as the police wished. (Assuming of course, that he actually had a gun in his hand.)
Unknown men? The report says the police knocked on his door. If police knock on my door I won’t be holding a gun on them or siccing a pit bull on them. The whole thing was preventable if the man had obeyed the police.
What is more scary is the "combat zone" talk.
A civilian is an unarmed person in a combat zone. Cops DO NOT NEED to use the phrase "civilian".
They need to say citizen or criminal and that's it.

No, had he killed the armed trespassers who tried to invade his home without a warrant he’d be alive.

They did not walk up to the door and show their badges.
Bunch of men. In dark clothing. Yelling at you. At midnight.
Perhaps if they had come during the day, knocked on the door, shown their badges and warrant they would have been met by Mr. Lopez who would have told them they wanted the house across the way.
It would have ended with them arresting the right person and Mr. Lopez would have been pleased that the police were doing their job.
If you hold a gun on the police and refuse to drop it the police will probably shoot you.
That does seem to be their excuse, or that they thought you had a gun. But without them behaving in a professional way, how are you suppose to know they are police? Do you stop drop and cower every time someone in dark clothing yells at you?
The police are civilians...
That’s what people (especially LEOs) tend to forget. The police are not a military unit.
Cops are cowards with guns and badges who were picked on when they were little boys. We wouldn’t have this “cop” problem if there weren’t bullies. (Sarc)
Seriously, way too many cops are way too itchy to shoot SOMETHING.

Well, for one, all this happens in seconds. Secondly, he was in his own home and had EVERY RIGHT to hold onto his firearm...in his own home.
Hope the cop that shot/killed him goes to prison just like any other bonehead that shoots another w/o cause.
Memo to Police: Americans are in the middle of a Terrorist War. We are armed. Park at the street, identify yourselves, and demand that we exit the building. If the dope goes down the toilet and you don’t get to confiscate the car, you will have to suck it up!
Try telling police that. They look military from their haircuts to their boots and weapons.
I got harassed by the police in Sacramento all the time. Once they know you’re related to drug users they just assume you are too and then you don’t have any rights any more. Doesn’t matter that you haven’t done anything wrong and they were always disappointed to stop me, search me, and find nothing. I guess I’m lucky they never planted something on me.
And I am as white as can be.
Since moving to Wyoming all of my experiences with law enforcement have been nothing but positive. It’s a different world from California.
